Religion in the work place. What's your take?

There's a lady that constantly updates her signature in Outlook to display some religious term. Her signature now reads: "Bloom where God plants you". I don't think that religion should be allowed in the workplace.
 
something like that doesnt bug me so much. however when people try to "sell" me their religion... ugh. fortunately i find as i get better jobs, this is much less frequent.
 
Fucking keep that shit out. I had a team meeting today where in our "2 minute updates" which are simply whats going on with each person crap, one chick goes "I love God, God is my savior, God this, God that".... Then most the team go "yeah I agree" and cheer and shit... when our boss asked "was anybody offended by that comment?" one girl even said "I don't care if anybody is offended"....

I wanted to go "why do you believe in imaginary, invisible, being that doesn't offer proof of his existence, but expects your worship for 'original sin' from birth?" I decided I was at work, and it wasn't the right place for it lol...
 
I don't see anything wrong with that. I've thought of adding verses to my sig at work, but I figured I'd keep my sig simple and strictly company specific. I hate people that have super long sigs. It's one thing on a forum to have a big sig but in a professional environment, it can get annoying. Also if you need to talk with customers you'll always get those persecuter type people that think all Christians need to burn, and they'll think bad of the company because of a simple signature. People FIND ways to be offended these days.
 
I don't care as long as I don't get preached at. I'll put the kibosh on that pretty quickly.

If you were to make a case to HR that her religious quotes offend you they'd have her remote it immediately. The last thing they want are lawsuits. If they let her keep it up you could (if you wanted) put up things like "Let Satan be with you." and they'd have to allow you to keep it or they'd have a discrimination suit on their hands.

Inappropriate, unless you work in a church or something.
Politics and religion are best left out of the work place.
 
If it's going out externally I don't think it's right because you never know who might get offended (clients or whatnot). Internal only, then who cares.

My first day at work, two guys were arguing about religion and politics at the same time.

And I work for the Gub'ment! :Q


But I keep my opinions to myself. I don't care if someone else makes an ass of themselves.
 
The only thing that annoys me more than when people get all religious is when other people make a huge stink about it.

Leave the Jesus-lady alone. She's happy in her little world. Getting offended and making a big deal of it won't accomplish anything but make both of you (and your boss, if he/she gets involved) feel worse.

As for if someone brings it up in a meeting... well, that's a little worse, sort of like putting you on the spot, but you could always counter it by pretending to be Muslim or something.
 
The OP's sig I don't mind, but situations like mine (where God has to be interjected into everything and you are wrong/will burn if you don't believe in God) I have issues with.

If you put religion in your sig, I don't think it's right to do but don't have an objection to it. If you want some shit at your desk professing how great God is, so be it. Don't force it upon me, or bring it up in team meeting environments....

inappropriate to have on business email, and that is the only email that should be sent with a work account

religious discussion btw coworkers, no problem thats not official company business. everyone is entitled to their beliefs, but it definitely should not be on official correspondence in any capacity
 
Im caught in the middle:

On one had, I hate religious people who for some reason have to constantly quote lines from a meaningless book.
On the other hand I hate all people that get "offended" by stupid shit that doesn't affect them. I think "annoyed" is a better word for it.
 
Hard to get up in arms about a religious signature when there are so many other stupid, annoying, unprofessional signatures in emails.

If you are going to get your panties in a bunch and not do business with a company because of what someone puts in their email sig...they probably are not going to break a sweat trying to keep you....I wouldn't....there will be many others to replace you.
 
the point of freedom of religion is that you get to practise it everywhere... not only within the confines of your church/home.

Yes... that includes "at work" too.

This is true too, if i had a company i would force a consistent signature for all people. like a letterhead...
 
I had to call our Dell rep before xmas to order a couple of servers. she was out on vacation and left a number for her backup. i called her backup and got her voicemail and she ended her message with
"have a blessed day"

kinda caught me off guard and after i thought about it came to the conclusion that it was tacky and un-business like.
 
I think it should be legally at the discretion of the company as long as the standards are applied equally to all religions or lack thereof.

Personally I want work to be about work. I'm religious and I don't mind if my coworkers know it, but my interactions with them should be about work.

What kind of weird company do you work for? Besides, that's why a lot of companies have prescribed signatures or at the very least a policy describing what can and cannot be in a signature, particularly if the e-mails are going outside of the company.

I don't give a crap as long as it doesn't intrude on company business.


Where I currently work they have weekly prayer meetings/sessions (not really sure what all goes on) where they hijack the main conference room for about 2 hours. It's extremely aggravating but I've learned it's best to let someone else fight that battle.


You never know who is a huge jesus nut until you start complaining about that kind of thing. I've seen people get axed after pushing anti-christian views.
