We have a national debt. Why not sell citizenship in monthly auctions, say ten thousand at a time, to the highest bidders world wide. Maybe make it free for Chinese and Indian industrialists who want to build factories here.

What in God's green Earth are you blathering about? Non-citizens have been allowed in the military since forever. Probably since the US became a country. Hell, the ship I was on had a guy from the Philippines. And that was almost 20 years ago. I guess we must be prostrating ourselves to the Philippines now. Jesus.

i had guys in my squadron from Guam, Canada, St. Lucia, England. My Squadron commander a Major was British, but i think she became a citizen since she was an officer. but the others returned to their home country after their service.

Jaskalas said NO foreign citizens should be allowed in the military.
No foreign citizen should be in our military without a good professional or diplomatic reason.

Guess I'll have to bold what I said above for those who did not read. Only allowing people who serve a useful purpose is quite different from what you pretend I said.

Is that opinion so frightening?

Do0d, for decades and decades during the draft judges all over this country let actual criminals guilty of assault and property theft and worse join the military in lieu of going to jail, but I guess you knew that, eh?

My battle buddy in basic was Philipino. At least 6 - 8 people in my basic training class were from the Philippines or Puerto Rico.

A woman in our maintenance shop was told by a judge either join the Army or go to jail. This was in the early 90's. It is not legal now, but it still happens behind closed doors.

I have no problem with granting legal status or a path toward citizenship for military service. In my opinion if you are willing to sacrifice your freedom and time, and potentially risk your life, for the country then you have earned the right to jump line. College? Absolutely not. Attending college is to better oneself, not the nation. It should earn no special dispensation and certainly should not an amendment be in a Senate defense bill.

 "Service guarantees citizenship. Would you like to know more?"

If you're worried about the deficit, you want illegal immigrants to become citizens so they can pay taxes. To say nothing of the moral issue of denying illegals a path to citizenship. In reality, ask yourself what's more important, punishing immigrants that came here illegally seeking refuge from horrid conditions in various countries, or just making them legal citizens so they can pay taxes (reduce the deficit, pay their fair share) and help them find better paying jobs? Conservatives would choose the latter...if they were true conservatives that is.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday he wants to attach an amendment to a defense policy bill that would help young people in the United States illegally become legal U.S. residents.

The Nevada Democrat said at a Capitol news conference that the legislation known as the DREAM Act is long overdue. He would not say whether he has the votes for the amendment. The act would allow young people who attend college or join the military to become legal U.S. residents.

Not a bad idea. Not a bad idea at all. There is nothing wrong with allowing good illegal immigrants to become citizens. Especially those kids who have been here all their lives and been flying straight arrow. Regardless of how or why they got here, it is assinine to keep thinking we can work through this problem without some form of amnesty.

Agreed

But, do they have separate units for non-citizens in the military?

The Bush era keyboard soldiers couldn't be bothered to enlist and now they don't like the idea of illegals doing the work they cower away from. Typical.

Since the recession the military has had no problems with recruiting. And the quality of those recruited is higher than ever.

LOL "Violence has resolved more conflicts than anything else in history." Pretty good book, pretty awful movie.

No, nor should they. One of the big pluses in the military is its equality and the way it exposes soldiers to those from other walks of life and other parts of the country and indeed the world. Okay, two big pluses. The two big pluses of the military are its equality and the way it exposes soldiers to those from other walks of life and other parts of the country and indeed the world. And its discipline building, the three big pluses of the military are its equality, the way it exposes soldiers to those from other walks of life and other parts of the country and indeed the world, and its discipline building. Shit, I'll come in again.

NO ONE expects the Spanish Inquisition!

I don't see the problem with this type of amnesty. It's not like they had a choice to immigrate as kids usually in tow with parents who made the decision. No felons or violent misdemeanors though.

Spare me. Most illegals are economic immigrants who vacation and frequently move back once denero is made. Not so "horrid" when they do that. I have a friend who owns a gentleman's ranch in Mexico who came here illegally 20 years ago and will move back once retired even though he has green card now. I don't blame him either Mexico is awesome if you have some means. Laws don't really apply to you and everything is cheap.

So immigrants can't move back to their home country if they came here illegally, but the immigrants who came here legally can? lmao.

I dont' see the problem.

Of course i also dont hate anything non-white or gay.

Is it not in Mexicans economic interest to come here?

Is it not in native workers self interest to limit labor pool?

Racism not found.

BTW- real republicans love illegal labor. Check out Chamber of Commerce web site who's been pimpin amnesty for 30 years. Again rational self interest.

Poor people generally don't pay much in taxes.

My God, I hope this finally passes. I've been waiting for this since 2002 but have since found the love of my life, married got a green card and I'm up for Citizenship next month. This will really benefit my nephew. Kid's really talented. Knows how to play multiple instruments well and is doing very well in HS. I know how he feels, that desperation of one day lossing your home and everything you knew. You dumbasses, this bill is very specific about who will benefit. These are children that were brought into the country, without their consent, by their parents and have become 100% American culturally. At most 70,000 illegal immigrants graduate from HS per year. Grow a heart.

We are dumbasses? So we want to follow immigration laws of the US and respect the sovereign of a nation and we are dumbasses? Spoken like a true ILLEGAL.

Do you know the old saying "ignorance of the laws is not an excuse"? Same ole excuses from ILLEGAS..."but..but... but.... those poor kids were brought over here without their consent". Let see you try that excuse in Mexico court.

BTW, tell us more great one. Tell us how would an ILLEGAL be treat in Mexhico or any nations on Earth? Would an ILLEGAL be a citizen or be in jail. Tell us how Mexico treat people from its southern border that come in ILLEGALLY.

What part of ILLEGAL that you don't understand? Comprende imbecil?

ILLEGALS and ILLEGALS lovers like you are the kind that make us sick. You and your kind broke all kind of laws and then have the nerve to demand amnesty/citizenship and then call us "dumbass", "racist", "bigots" and all kind of names just because we want the government to enforce immigration laws currently in the book.

Go back to the hellhole that you are from and learn how to get here LEGALLY, espalda mojada.
