There's a higher resolution shot of the boy missing his arms on the MSNBC slide shows. Even considering the overall context of the war, sometimes a single image really hits home the fact that individual life threads are being irreversably altered for better and worse. Even if the "worse" cases are in the minority, they can be hard to stomach.

Apparently international media coverage is showing images like these much more frequently than US media. Don't be shocked if there's no immediate "good job" pat on the back forthcoming from the international community after we've finished.

[edit: redundancy and clarity]

Just like most of the media has left out the images of people welcoming us and heart warming photos of re-united families. There exists photos and stories that make even the biggest hawk wonder if the human price is worth it, there are other photos and stories that remove those doubts.

In the end war is horrible thing, and we can only hope the price paid is worth it.

No offense man, but the major news networks have been showing those feel good pictures of Iraqi's welcoming us quite a bit. I'm not sure what news you are watching.

CNN/msnbc/fox. I have seen very little of the welcoming images.

"War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over." Gen. William T. Sherman

War is ugly. It's too bad for the people caught in the crossfire, but some things are just necessary.

Don't forget what happens around here when a person talks about Innocent Iraqi Civilians as though they are the same level of human being as you and me.

I know, and i see they have arrived to destroy a good discussion so i am out of this thread...

Most of us want nothing more than those very same people to LIVE on the same level as you and me.

I believe you, but there are many who can only see or think "Saddam Is Evil and we should bomb him!!!!" ... They never CARE TO SEE the the innocent human beings who are killed during this struggle. I cannot help it.. I even take some pity on the Iraqi Soldiers who get blown to little pieces..<<<<they are forced to fight and even if they wanted to surrender their commanders would shoot them in the head and might also murder their families. <<That being said.. and as sad as it may seem .. War may really have been the only way to save the Innocent people of Iraq. The whole Baath Party needed to be executed and this is the only war it could have ever been done. People like Saddam Hussein and Slobodan Milosevic do not deserve to live in a prison.. they need to be killed at the first chance possible because if they can speak they will find a way to get their followers to kill more people.

Case In point... There are still MANY people in Russia who love Joseph Stalin and believe he was a great leader :(

Well, I'm not going to get in a argument with you over this, but I have been watching both MSNBC and CNN quite a lot lately, and they have shown quite a good deal of images of happy Iraqi's with US troops. Every time MSNBC cuts to a commercial they run a few of them too. In contrast, they have shown very little of the horrible images that are a reality in war. I can't speak for Fox as I don't watch them or consider a good deal of what they report "fair and balanced", and I think it is quite amusing they need to repeat that slogan over and over like they need to convince us....but that is another topic all together.

Baath Party= Blood Baath

Millions of people had to die to finally kill Hitler and his legions... at least we dont have to carpet bomb to do the job today. We are witnessing the cleanest war in history of this proportion.

I agree... What else were we suspossed to do? And for everyone that says that we should have left Iraq alone, everyone knows that if Saddam had a chance to deploy a devastating weapon against America he would have did it in a heart beat. What then... Do we just sit on our asses and wait till a chemical weapon explodes in a major city killing tens of thousands??

War sucks.. and I do care about the Iraqi citizens as well, because I don't want to see innocent people killed. But what other alternative did we have? No one can answer that. There was nothing else we could have done, because nothing else was working.

The Iraqi people will rebound. There strong and hopefully they will as well us.

While I respect your point of view, that is why we have our various intelligence agencies. They are supposed to offer us some degree of protection by stopping this stuff before it happens. We can't simply take out any country that might do something to us. Let me ask you this. If a large scale chemical attack is such a danger to us, why has this never happened to us, or any other nation up to this point. Are we suddenly in more danger post 9/11, or are we all just more worried about it now? There are many other countries out there that might also be targets, and have much less security than we do, and it hasn't happened there. Chemical agents have been around for ages...this isn't something that suddenly is a danger. While taking on Iraq was no big deal to our mighty military, there are other countries that could possible pose a risk that we can't simply invade and change the government. Case in point would be North Korea, and maybe even Russia. At some point, we need to rely on our intelligence community as taking on every and any country that might pose a threat is not realistic and could have even worse wide ranging consequences. My point is that you can never completely protect against something happening, you can just try to minimize the chance of it.
