one more quick question guys. could anyone tell me where i could find some information regarding what each and everything in the registry means and or is used for? you are probably asking yourself why? i just want to extend my computer knowledge a bit. lol thanks in advance for any and all help. DALE

Good luck, MS doesn't document a lot of their keys and any program can add keys wherever they want. You can poke around MSDN or a certain product's docs to see if they document their keys, but you'll never find an exhaustive list of keys because it's not possible.

yeah, that's what i was thinking. just making sure. thanks for the repl anyway. have a good night. DALE

You would probably be wise to start with a good book on it. With some time you can get a pretty firm grasp on the system hive but the software hive is filled with mostly 3rd party information that varies too much for a definative guide.

Learn how to make a good backup of the registry and how to restore it in case of a dead server. After that, just go jump in to it feet first.
