Just an update on these monitors @ Poweron. According to the sales rep that I talked to... These are end of lease model items. I.E. corporate office has 100 of these on lease, when the lease expires Company renews lease with new equipment. I used to work for Pitney Bowes and that was 90% of our business. Leasing Equipment. Car Business
does the same thing. YMMV based on what they did with their applications business-wise. Another example being Previous Rental Cars purchased thru Auctions. Hundreds of different people using that car over a year? You never know if the Co. kept the monitors on 24/7...or how long their lease was for? Does anyone know if these monitors would have a Manufacted date on the back of the Monitor? With Pitney our leases were at least 3 years out to 5 years.

August, 1999 on the one I bought earlier this year as a back-up. I've never used it so if anyone is looking for one in the Austin area I will let it go at a discount.

Bought from allthingstech Grade B. Monitor is a Hitachi 811, with little bit of an abrasion on the anti-glare coating in two places. Manufactured in 2000. For less than $160 shipped. No power/video cables. Good for a conventional CRT - anyone know of a deal on a (used) Sony Trinitron or Diamondtron Flat one?

Mikek & Robertsmith Thanks for the heads-up on Manufactured dates on your Monitors.... Mikek I can't help with buying your monitor as I'm no where near Austin TX.... I'm a N. Cali HomeBoy....

Robertsmith have you tried Overstock.com as they have these three models plus others.

IBM P260 flat black 21" Trinitron Monitor $299.99

SONY SDMHS73/H17" Grey LCD $429.90

SONY SDHMS53/H 15" Grey LCD $329.90

Saw these there. Not sure if this is in the price range you're lookin' for? Or the models (no diamondtron?) you exactly want either?:)

Hey Guys. My 19" Monitor just blew out so these deals are right up my alley.

I am a heavy gamer so Im looking for a good 21"+ monitor that can has an excellent refresh rate (over 90) at 1280x1024. Now my desktop is entirely black so the hitachi deal is not a sure thing for me. Any suggestions out there??

The hitachi
The NEC FE1250 22" FLAT CRT MONITOR from Poweron
IBM P260 flat black 21" Trinitron Monitor $299.99 from overstock (a little high priced for me)

If you guys know of any black 21" refurbs out there. Let me know !

Thanks

I bought one grade A like 6 months ago from allthingstech
and now kids are fighting every day over who will play on this gorgeous 21".
Loser gets to play on 19" ghetto monitor. ;)

I see they have some in stock right now.

I know this is a little off topic, but since this is the place where I found the deal, I figured that others who have gotten in on the deal could help me out...

Hey guys, just a few questions about this monitor... but before I ask here are some things that might make things clearer. Around July I jumped in on this deal after 2 months of looking for monitors. Due to the great replies posted in this thread about this monitor's performance, and quality, I decided to buy one at allthingstech. That monitor is fine. Then just about 2 weeks ago I ordered another one because I needed something to replace an aging 15" crt, and seeing how great the first one was I thought a second one would be just as good. Both were ordered as Grade A, but the second one that I ordered (which also happened to be the last one in stock towards the end of November) seems "less durable" than the first one I got half a year ago. For one, when i turn on my first monitor it makes a smooth low-pitched "power up" sound. The one I bought last month made a louder "booong" power-up sound than the other one... I know this sounds really minor, but the difference is that one sounds like its running fine, while the other sounds like its about to die. Kind of like a car. Another thing is the display as the monitor turns on- The first one looks flawless, the monitor starts out black, takes about 2 seconds to power on then all the colors are displayed at once after it is fully on. The second one seems to be loading certain colors and backgrounds first. After pressing the power switch, the loud "boooong" sound occurs then i would see the green, yellow, or white colors load up first onto the blackscreen before the rest of the picture shows up. This monitor is also noticeably dimmer than my other Grade A. Is the tube dying? or about to die? The way it sounds when it powers on scares me, but other than these noticeable differences, both monitors are currently fully functional... for the time-being.

So my question is to HomerJay and to other customers who has this monitor- Is this normal or am I getting a grandfather monitor that is heading for the grave? And to those who have had their monitors burned out, do these look like familiar symptoms? Some answers would be great, thanks.

Once again I know this sounds more like a tech-support type of thing, but it would be really helpful to know if you guys are experiencing the same things with your Grade A or Grade B's. I really hate the hassle of sending large items back and forth, and items of this weight do not ship cheap. Replies would be really helpful in deciding whether this monitor should go back or not. Thanks again. Sorry for the long post.

AbusedFish2,

Throughout this entire thread only one guy said his monitor failed after couple of months.
It doesnt sound like a high failure rate, but who knows you might be the next one.
My monitor also makes loud boom, I think it degausses every time you turn it on, so I am not worried.
Can it be that your first monitor doesnt degauss automatically?

As for grade B obviously its not as good as A but ppl who were really unhappy were able to exchange it.
At least thats my impression. You would here a lot of complaints on this thread if something was seriously wrong in B department.

i just recieved my Grade B monitor.. what can i say about it.. i love it.. it came faster than i expected.. it was packaged securely.. came with vga and power cables.. and yes the box is very heavy.. now after removing the monitor and expecting the outside.. it "seems" flawless.. dont even know why its a Grade B.. maybe im lucky.. at least i hope so.. anyways.. im coming from a no name brand 15 inch monitor.. so i have nothing bad to say about it.. im very happy and this was a very good deal.. if u guys are coming from 15-17 inch monitors.. ur not going to be dissapointed.. it does make a loud noise wen u degauss.. but thats about it..

now knock on wood it last me for years..

TY anandtech for this phat deal..

I have a Grade B and love it. I got it about 3 or 4 months ago. There is a crack on the outside of the case but the picture is great and I have not had any problems (knock on wood) I use it mostly for gaming and can't complain.

I would recommend these montiors!!

If you go WAAAAY back to the beginning of this thread (I don't think they were differentiating A vs B at the time) I got one of these. I've been using it a few hours a day since then and it's still going strong! Actually, I just put a 19" as a 2nd display next to it and so I'm thinking I want another so my screen sizes will match... :|

Thanks for the reply, Don. Did you decide whether or not to order another one?

Am interested...could anyone comment on this as a replacement for a 19-inch Viewsonic pf 790? That monitor's worked wonderfully for me over the last year (mostly website design, photoshop stuff, some 3D, movies) and i'd like to get something that isn't worse in terms of quality.

My Viewsonic's flickering off the screen once in a while, and needs a whack (or several) to get the screen to behave again :( Am thinking it might die on me sometime soon, and short of flirting with electrocution, i have no idea how i would even try to repair the thing.

Dave.
