Redhat 8 mirors?

I usually have the best luck using Linuxiso.org but with the release being so new most of the mirrors are being hit hard. I would just wait a week or two or schedule it to download in the weeeeeeeeeeeee hours of the morning.

Its not that bad...I'm getting 100kb/sec from one mirror, but if I told it to all of you my download would probably go down so I'll post when I'm done 🙂

University of Wisconsin mirror

I was pulling 4.2MB/s (yes, megaBYTES) from here, although I might have a tiny advantage. Normally the speeds are good though, sitting right around 1-2MB/s for those with decent connections.

Sorry guys, I just checked some of the network details and it looks as though they finally put a bandwidth cap on the mirrors.

Last year they were using 150Mb/s for Redhat 7.3, last week they were using 100Mb/s for Mandrake 9.0, but as of today it looks like their bandwidth was capped at 50Mb/s.

So no flying downloads this time around, sorry.

let me guess...you're going to the univeristy of wisconson? 🙂

I got 17KB/second on that one...I'm getting 40KB/sec on this other server...I'll stick with the other one 🙂

Well...the one I'm using was pulled from the redhat mirror list because they released 8.0 too early

But, they still have the 8.0 ISO's up 🙂 so I don't have to worry about the site getting hammered like the rest of the mirrors. I'll post when I'm done (although 40KB/sec isn't exactly fast either)

It was funny earlier though. I was probably the first person on one of the mirrors, my D/L was going at 250KB/sec...then it was down to 200...then 150...then 100...then 50....40...30...20...10....Damn, time to find a new mirror

What's it like doing a RedHat upgrade? I've just started to get 7.3 up and running (my first linux install). Will all my programs and settings and stuff still be there after I do the upgrade?

there is an option when installing to choose upgrade. it then just puts the newer packages on. it's actually easier than a clean install I think.

I just do a clean install w/o uverwriting my /home directory, and I backup /etc

I'm halfway done with CD-2. I'm getting 250KB/s when I pause Newsbin....

Didn't you guys know that when you are an AT subscriber there is a link on the frontpage to ANAND's Secret Redhat Mirror.......

Thanks for all the replies and bumps, I was able to finally get all 3 CDs I needed last night in a couple hours, after I spent a couple hours looking for a good mirror. So far this one has taken place of my Mandrake install, these new distros just keep get better IMO.

using red hats list of mirrors that I posted above I got all 5 iso's (yes I know I only needed the first 3) and the documentation iso in less than 1 hour.

I tried about 10 mirrors, and only even got a connection on 1. And it's so slow, just an 'ls' takes about 30 seconds 🙁
I'll try again in a few days. Or maybe our local LUG will set up a mirror again.
