Red Tabasco Cheez-It

Crono

Lifer
I used to get a lot of the red tabasco (not the "hot and spicy" green Tabasco, but made with the original red) Cheez-It. Did they stop making it? I can't seem to find it anywhere anymore. I hope I'm not going crazy and imagined their existence, lol.

I was gonna say yes, cause my co-worker had a box here last week, but I'm pretty sure it was the green Tabasco kind, not the red.

wait i did find this comment on some webpage talking about the green tabasco cheez its

I could have sworn that they first came out with a red tabasco sauce flavor and I enjoyed those alot. When they switched to green or green/red combo, haven't liked them.

It's weird, because I distinctly remember buying and eating on more than one occasion. I think I first had it like 4 years ago, at least 3 times, and then after like a couple of months I didn't see it anywhere. The packaging was different (had red tabasco bottle, not a green, and it definitely tasted better to me (hotter, just like the red tabasco sauce is hotter than green). Maybe my area was a test market for it or something. I am really hoping I am not remembering incorrectly or imagining it altogether, but I don't see any reference to it online, and no one I talk to seems to recall it at all or very vaguely.

If it was test marketing, it's possible they found that people like green more, but I don't know why they wouldn't keep the red one also for people who like a little more heat.

Tabasco Cheez-Its are amazing. My store still carries them, but your local store could be different. You might try online/ebay if you are desperate.

Interesting. Either we both imagined it, or they really did make it. I'm not that obsessed that I would contact Cheez-It, but they were my favorite snack and super addictive.

Lol, I actually tried that when I got a craving one time. It wasn't bad, but not quite the same. I'm guessing they add the flavor before they bake it.

EDIT: I may be crazy and wasting my time, but I have to know. I sent Cheez-It a message through their website contact form. Hopefully they will actually respond.

Nope, you're not crazy. They made them, and my Dad loves them. I wasn't a fan myself... a bit too spicy for a cheese cracker. I haven't seen them in Connecticut, though!

I just dip Cheez-Its in Tabasco when I can't find the Red Cheez-Its. They're getting harder & harder to find.

Yup, will do. I am tempted to make a petition for them to bring back the flavor.

Good lord I need to find this product, the green Tobasco Cheez-Its are my all time favorite addictive snack, and if they make a version of the red, which I like better than the green sauce.... cue Homer Simpson drool sounds...

I totally forgot that those things even existed until I read the OP. Man they're good... I need to go try and find some now.

I sniffs around for the cheese. *drools and stops drooling and drools and stops drooling and drools* Cheese is reward for good work.

Ok, I got a response back from the company:

"Mr. Mathews,

Thank you for contacting us regarding Sunshine® Cheez-It® Hot & Spicy
crackers.

We have searched our records and we do not indicate of us using the
red Tabasco® Sauce. We even looked in our discontinued product list
and nothing matched. It could have been that at one point it was in
test market when first introduced but we found not record of an
actual launched product with red sauce.

We appreciate your interest in our company and products.

Sincerely,

Alex Grijalva
Consumer Affairs Department"

So it was never a fully launched product, and was just test marketed 🙁 Oh well.
