Been seeing a lot of questions about if the medicare cuts don't start until after the 26 elections then why would there be political blowback. Well if you are a lender to any company in the medical sphere that relies on Medicare for XX% of your revenue that the government has just vaporized there is a real good possibility the covenants require immediate action and you have to create a new budget. If your margin is already tight then you probably go under. So hospitals and practices which can't make it will start folding this year.

House hasn't even passed the bill and it's already started.

https://www.klkntv.com/rural-southwest-nebraska-clinic-closes-blaming-expected-medicaid-cuts/

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A clinic in southwest Nebraska announced Wednesday that it is closing due to financial challenges, including anticipated Medicaid cuts.

McCook-based Community Hospital said it is shutting down its clinic in Curtis, a town of about 900 people.

The Curtis Medical Center has been in operation for more than 30 years.

“Unfortunately, the current financial environment, driven by anticipated federal budget cuts to Medicaid, has made it impossible for us to continue operating all of our services, many of which have faced significant financial challenges for years,” Community Hospital CEO Troy Bruntz said in a statement.

The clinic will wind down its services over the coming months.

Fuck it. It’s kind of refreshing to see them get what they voted for. Tax cuts for the economically productive in blue cities and closed hospitals and cut services for the rural Trump voters. Should have paid attention in history and government class.

70%... Wait... WHAAAT???
This is even worse than expecting, the ICE is clearly attacking even the nationals then?

What Trump wants? famine to make his move and depends on Russia? Is he insane?

About half of all US farm workers are migrants. Probably higher in certain areas (Central Valley for sure) and type of ag.

Heck, but I can't see too much migrants being illegals. Even legals and nationals as long don't look white are effed then... and this is clearly a dissaster.

Urban and suburban areas are also going to suffer. All those hospitals also rely on Medicaid money to help deliver care. They may also stay open, but they're also going to get a lot busier with rural hospitals closing, meaning longer wait times for all.

Anyway, it's pretty telling that conservatives see "I hope you get what you voted for" as an insult, whereas normal people are like "yes, I'm happy I'm getting what I voted for".

I could see it being an issue with creditors: knowing the money is about to dry up for the Federal government, they halt or substantially reduce any immediate lending to limit their future losses, thus, clinics that need some form of lending to stay in normal operation go belly-up before the money really gets cut off.

Yes, this is an issue people inside the industry have flagged. A double digit percentage of your hospital/office/clinic's revenue just went poof even if it doesn't happen till next year. Tell the bank everything is gonna be fine lol.

The irony is with all these hospital closures and increased medical costs, the American people or at least rural voters might actually start supporting universal health care. The irony being that the right would be getting what they despise, a socialist health care system.

The other irony would be that democrats would likely do all they can to help those voters and they would probably pass half ass measures because of Republican obstruction which republicans would then blame them for the shitty health care they still have access to. Which would then negate any sort of public desire for universal health care.

Lol great times!

This is 100% accurate. The places that know with certainty they're not gonna make it will be the first to fold and will do so quickly.

Hospital systems will start showing up in state capitals all over the country to ask for support. There will be limited $ to go around and the most efficient best lobbied ones will emerge victorious. That is not your random clinic in a town of like 5K people.

Once lost it will be virtually impossible to reestablish care in rural America. Staff has left, physical plant abandoned to decay, etc. Keeping them open is like an order of magnitude easier/cheaper than trying to reopen. Once it's gone it's probably gone for good.

I would not be surprised to see the catastrophe start to unfold and then for Trump to extralegally declare additional funding for friendly constituencies.

Possibly he could inject more cash into the rural hospital support fund that's included in the bill ($100B). Fascinatingly the fund isn't actually restricted to rural hospitals to any meaningful degree per Dr. Oz and everybody can go after the money. The better resourced systems are for sure going to gobble it up.

Like the idea we have 20M illegal immigrant criminals or whatever. There are millions of people on Medicaid who aren't supposed to be isn't true either.

Any rural Trump voter who dies from lack of access to healthcare due to these cuts is a win to me. Every single one. It's better off for humanity and for our society the more of these people perish due to the results of their own actions.

Actually, the issue is that healthcare will collapse even for middle class due the lack of money. And then we have the top tier class which will see other countries if the US quality collapses. And is possible to see that.

It's more of an urban/rural thing. Rural health care facilities will close because there won't be enough business to support them without federal aid. Urban ones will probably be okay, at least in a general sense.

Rural areas voted strongly for Trump so they can take solace that having their hospitals close is exactly what they voted for.

Kentucky governor Andy Beshear highlights the damages in Trump's big ugly Bill. There are other commentators in it also, it's a long read.

  • Closes 35 rural hospitals (more than [in] any [other] state)
  • Endangers health care for 1.5 MILLION Kentuckians
  • Cuts food assistance for 575,000 Kentuckians (including 225,000 children)
  • Gives billionaires massive tax breaks while Kentucky’s working families suffer

The people of Kentucky are finally getting what they voted for.

After all, they send Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell to the Senate every 6 years, 5/6 House reps are Republicans, and at the state level, Republicans hold 84% of the state senate and 80% of the state house.

People voting against their material interest should get what they voted for long and hard.

I don't want to touch the stove, and I don't want other people to touch the stove, but if that's what it takes to get them to see sense, so be it.

They're so busy being riled up about imaginary culture war issues that they don't notice how Republicans are robbing them blind. Someone on Bluesky conveyed a story of a deep red Nebraska district that shot itself in the foot: assemblyman (R) was going to support a wind project in the district, gets primaried by a Koch-backed person and loses. New assemblyman (R), who's big on oil, in a district that doesn't have any oil jobs, then helps to block the project. They just do it to themselves.

Right. I'm not wishing it on them.

But I'm damn sure gonna point and laugh and scream "YOU FUCKING VOTED FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" as the random bits of their life crumble around them.

All while I benefit from the cuts, and the SALT increase, and the market response causes my 401k to grow.
