Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 $4.99 Steam

This was one of the first weekend deals. Good to see a repeat. Worth the $5, not so much at $15 or $20..

Yeah I got it when it was $20.. pretty disappointing game if you ask me.

Most realistic FPS that I have ever played. Do not expect a fast paced run and gun shooter if you decide to buy it.

I haven't tried it yet but that sounds like the type of FPS I prefer actually.

Already purchased, downloaded, and installed.

From the reviews I read, that's the key thing - know what you are getting, it's either just what you want, or not what you want, but not a cookie cutter clone FPS.

There have been worse games for $5 on Steam and I've bought them all. I picked this up last night but haven't had time to play it. I'm ganna try it out tonight.

It feels...clunky at best. It might just me expecting too much of a quick spot and engage type of combat that I've gotten used to with Battlefield 2 but this game certainly has its shining moments. I had my roommate send me a guest pass (because he just bought it) but half the time I end up dying because I'm pressing the wrong button to prone (which takes a really long time, BTW).

Yea it seems like they tried to make this as different as possible. I'm still playing practice. I haven't even jumped in the real game yet. So many quirks to this game. Ehh for $5 it's not like you're losing a lot if you don't like it.

its a really good game...its a completely different kind of FPS than most though ,its about taking your time and taking your shots..if you want to run and gun it you had better be one of the best players ...and even then sometimes it just aint gonna work

its much more realistic and involving than most fps games

if you havent played the game online you really arent getting the experience of the game either..

some of my favorite moments are me and 3 other guys crawling through tall grass to a house while tanks are patrolling the area and artillery is pounding the hell out of the ground

its really intense and can suck you in to a disturbing degree ..it really makes you feel like you are in war..the disorientation...the frustration with the limitations of reality..

I'm still doing practice and getting used to everything. It's so different than any other fps that you need to relearn how to play just for this game.

and the man aint lying.

RO would be fun if people played anything other than field maps and didn't just tank-camp. As it is, if you don't like the adventure of aiming a turrent and clicking... you lose. The only antitank weapon of any use in 99.9% of games is the Russian long range gun, and it runs out of ammo after capping 3-4 tanks making you suicide for more ammo. Maps are just WAAAAAAAAAAAY too open and all other antitank guns are just WAAAAAAAAY too short ranged.

The most fun maps to play are the ones with tanks disabled... then everyone just satchel spams since they are basically a 20ft circle of insta-death.

clunky? the game is purposely designed to not have that ridiculous "noobed up" feel to it

its MEANT to have a learning curve..

I just think that you actually have to give this game some time..

I will agree that there are issues with it. At times it can take too long to get into the action and its frustrating.. THe thing is that the game is made for people with patience....not the instant gratification type of game

As long as you avoid a couple of the maps, its a very enjoyable experience. THe levels vary greatly in their terrain..THere are many weapons all modeled semi-realistically ..the tanks battles are simply amazing

In my mind the only thing that rivals it (in terms of its specific genre) is the upcoming ARMA 2...we shall see how it actually plays once it comes out..

THe darkest hour mod for this game adds even more..its simply amazing what they have done with this old engine in my opinion

oh damn, why did you tell me that. now i'm going to be charging game deals to my paypal account even though i'm poor atm. =(

i'd be willing to try this, i was always a fan of BF2 when played slowly and tactically, but i still feel like this might be a bit much. games where you die from one shot and never even see your attacker are generally not fun.

Then I guess you wouldn't like America's Army either...
