Violation gets you a $85 fine.

See that sounds more reaonable... I made a mistake... I acknowledge my mistake and would happily pay that fine... $361 is just plain extortion.

$360 is much, however that's by San Diego 's standards, here in Ohio it's like a $100 which is reasonable for here too.

Er, I think that's the whole point. They don't want you to happily pay the fine.

If it doesn't hurt it's not going to change your behavior.

And FFS, it's $361.

You know it's funny... ATOT is so predictable.

I don't know why I let it get to me.

IMHO those of you who feel I "deserve" a $361 fine for this are idiot fascist pigs... and I hope you recieve nasty fines yourselves as soon as possible.

From this post forward I will no longer respond to your idiocy...

-Max

I hate red light cameras. I think they should not be legal.

But $361 is fine amount for blowing a red light. I have no troubl eiwht it being so high.

Is that the crap that Mythbusters debunked?

Yeah from what I understand doesnt work at all...

All the speeding cameras are out of line too... they'll ticket you for driving 3mph over... ridiculous.

pay the ticket and dont run red lights

pretty simple

Why the assh*le response? You think $361 is a reasonable fee for a red light?

-Max

I think it's quite high.

High enough you'll probably think about it for some time to come.

It's also much lower than the total cost of the accident that could have resulted from you running the red light.

I've run red lights before, and I've gotten a ticket for it once. It was a nominal fine, and it made no dent in my driving habits; at that point, why even bother with a ticket? The fines should be high enough that they discourage the behaviour - much like parking tickets. If they were $3, and you didn't get towed, most people would park wherever they pleased.

Oh yeah sure...

first of all you don't know what happened... second of all.. you're a total idiot if you think I purposefully ran the red light.. or that somehow because of this ticket I'll be able to avoid the incident in the future..

you're even more of an idiot if you think the purpose of the high fine is anything less than fund raising...

-Max

I don't know what happened? I'll take a wild guess:

A red light camera, programmed to take photos of cars running the red light, took a photo of you running the red light, and then the city had the audacity to mail you a ticket without asking WHY you ran the red light?

Really, I know you're here doing one of two things: venting or looking for attention. My guess would have been the first - drop a little rant and you'll end up feeling better after 3 or 4 people call cops pigs and hop onto your OUTRAGE-mobile. That's not turning out how you planned, so since you're still pissed off, you're calling me an idiot to elevate yourself out of the pit you're digging.

Look - I know it sucks to pay tickets. It's a big fine. But the bottom line is you ran a red light and they have you on (proverbial, if not literal) film doing it. It won't matter if you were taking a sip of especially good latte or getting a blow job - you still ran the light. Take the other guy's advice and contest it - it's all you can do for now. If you're worked up enough over it, run for mayor or city council or something and fix it. Until then, you're just pissing into the wind.

Get the spray and spray on half of your plate, not the whole thing. Then get the license plate cover and install that. Use both not just 1. Will help most of the time so don;t think you are 100% safe.

Is there even any benefit to doing the Traffic school considering I'm in Virginia and will probably not drive in San Diego for years...

Generally only if you go to court. Doing so may get you out of a moving violation so no effect on insurance, but not real easy to do if you aren't local to the crime.

Mythbuster tests are invalid. They used regular cameras. The redlight cameras have a much brighter flash and set at more of an angle

look on the bright side... when you do come back here in a few years and drive on san diego roads they will be in good shape and will give you a nice, comfortable ride.

eh, who am i kidding? we've had these red light camera's for years and the roads are still shakier than katherine hepburn's head in a helicopter.

unless you want a point on your record, you'd best go to traffic school. DO it online, it takes about 10minutes
