There are many things wrong with the arguments used in this thread. Many are arguing the high fine is for the city. I read in a car magazine or U.S. Weekly that most of the fine just goes to the company that maintains or installed the camera. Another thing, is that whether you were going three miles above the limit or not, you were still going above the limit. Maybe you need to look up the definiton of "limit" Same goes for running a red light. Even if you are in another city, you ran a red. I'm sure you can't run reds in Virginia either.

pay the ticket and dont run red lights

pretty simple

Why the assh*le response? You think $361 is a reasonable fee for a red light?

-Max

yea, i do. redlight tickets should be much higher than speeding tickets.

Edit: i wish i was there when you opened the envelope. hearing you scream WTF!! would have been a classic.

that spray really works. i saw a news report on it yesterday

Is that the crap that Mythbusters debunked?

Yeah from what I understand doesnt work at all...

All the speeding cameras are out of line too... they'll ticket you for driving 3mph over... ridiculous.

there are speeding cameras? where?

Last I checked, getting a speeding ticket from a machine is against california law.

Not sure if it was a speeding ticket exactly, but I know my friend was making a right turn and she didn't slow down enough and it took several pics of her making the turn and had her speed written down.

I am not trying to give you ideas to use, but a friend got a ticket this way (camera/redlight) and they got it thrown out due to him trying to speed up and get out of the way of a fire truck. That fine is pretty steep, but what can you do?

$361 teaches you not to run red lights!

if you don't want to pay that amount then don't make a silly mistake again.

I accidentally ran a stop sign in the middle of nowhere in Ill. once. Was following behind a car, he ran the stop sign, I saw it but at the very last second, attempted to put on the brakes but there was no way I could have stopped in time (3 way stop at 4:30 in the morning so no one was around thank goodness). I proceeded to roll through the stop sign. Well, a cop was behind us and pulled me over, got a $150 ticket for running the stop sign. I explained what happened to the officer and told him that I was sorry but I didn't mean to run the stop sign.

The moral of this story is, I didn't act like a little bitch when I had to pay for something I didn't mean to do. You, my forum friend, are.

Unfortunately, running red lights is a big problem in most of Kahleeforneeya, and many cities have gone to the red-light cameras as a means of enforcement. If a cop catches you running a red light, the MINIMUM fine is $271, but with the cameras, the fine is $361. PERIOD. Yes, if they can't PROVE it was you driving the car, you MAY be able to beat it, but in a rental car linked to your name, you may have a tough time beating that, since MOST rental contracts have limitations on who can drive that car. Your profile shows you being from Va...the fine there may be much lower, but...this is Kahleeforneeya, and many fines here are much higher than other states, because we have so many asshats who are just too ****** important to obey our laws...native or not...being from out of state, it will be difficult to contest the ticket, (unless you want to come back to San Diego for court) but you MAY be able to contest it by declaration. THAT will have to be set up with the clerk of the court's office, and MIGHT be able to be done over the phone. If all you have to contest is the amount of the fine...you're just whining, and will have to pay up, but IF the photo doesn't show clearly that it's you driving, you MAY be able to beat the ticket...
Like it or not, you ADMITTED that you ran the red light, so even if the fine were $1000., you're guilty...so pay up...
BTW, as already mentioned, the local governments only get a pittance from these fines, so it's NOT a revenue source for them...most of it goes to the company who owns, installs and maintains the cameras.

the camers are smart in California, if you don't come to a complete stop at a lot of right turns, it will snap a picture.

I am paranoid and know that the one up the street from me is one of the only light cameras around my area so I drive the long way to avoid it :)

Im glad there are no red light cameras in Newport Beach or neighboring Irvine. Its sorta funny that they dont have red light cameras in 2 of the most expensive cities in California.

I'm glad that there are hefty fines for running red lights here in California. I'm friggin sick of seeing muthphucks running lights whenever they choose to. Having a big fine will make people think twice.

QFT! Here, it's normal to see 4-5 cars follow the line through the light AFTER it's turned red...

The companies that install AND maintain those cameras get a nice cut out of that $361. :D
That's why they got in trouble for setting them up to click early. :p

OP, go out to that light and digicam it for early shots. Catch it once and you will save $361.

Its a camera with a pretty picture. Not to mention that most states will charge the owner of the car without regard to who was driving.

Only way I can get it out of mayors court is if I demand a trial by jury...which I'll lose since I was going 3mph over the speed limit.

sucks

Demand a jury trial. At least you'll get your $237 of justice worth.
If everyone requested a jury trial on $237 ticket, they would drop/settle a lot more cases.

Yeah I'm gonna follow the Ticket Assasain website... at the very least I can cost the state of California a few bucks...
