Interesting - Pre-Purchase Red Faction Guerrilla today [STEAM - 39.99 Available: September 15th, 2009] and get the original Red Faction and Red Faction 2 for free to play now.

3.2gh dual core processor recommended spec is freakin insanity [might as well buy an xbox arcade]...

yeah it says CPU: 3.2 GHz Dual-Core Processor (Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon X2) for the recommended. that makes little sense though since clock for clock the Core 2 and Athlon X2 are no where near each other. if it means 3.2 for the Athlon X2 then even a 2.4 Core 2 would be faster.

I like this news on it for the PC.

"The Price Is Right: Though PC gamers had to wait that much longer for the game to come out, they are getting a lot of the DLC plus the full game for much, much cheaper than their console counterparts. Guerrilla on PC includes at launch two exclusive multiplayer maps, six maps from the Wrecking Crew DLC that's not even out yet, plus the multiplayer modes from the Multiplayer DLC. That's approximately $70 worth of stuff for only $40."

"It Looks Good and Plays Well: Producer Sean Kennedy says that developer Volition learned its lesson with the flaws in Saints Row 2 on PC. He says you've got to deliver a top-notch experience to them just as much as you need to for console owners ? if not more so because PC gamers have to wait longer for the game to come to them. After observing the fabulous-looking graphics and feeling just how well the game plays on PC (and it does), I'd say they nailed it."

Plus, if you pre-order on Steam you get Red Faction 1 and 2 for free. At $10 apiece on their own, that's basically getting Guerilla for $20.

I'm so in on this.

[UPDATE]

No dedicated server support? What?

Now I'm back on the fence.

why is this something you have to figure out and learn a lesson from? who the hell prefers a half-assed console port? well at least he says they learned their lesson.

So I've read that the mid-range systems comparable to mine [2.6 C2d, 4870 ATI] are working pretty well with this game. Considering it's within my price range on steam and volition has a nice track record of producing some damn fine good games - I think I'll pick this one up.

BTW - looks like D2D is also offering the same deal - 39.99 pre-order gets you RF1/RF2.

So now that it's out, any impressions on the multi-player portion of the game? I'm not necessarily enthusiastic about the single-player but maybe the multi-player could be worth it, and the game is $40, I thought it would be $50, so maybe I would consider it mostly for the multi-player.

Audio is broken if you use anything besides stereo. The game runs too fast on many systems for no apparent reason.

Massive frame drops when large scale destruction occurs.

If you haven't used nHancer to manually add an SLI profile then SLI isn't going to work for you. After added an rfg.exe profile with DX10 SLI I'm able to fully use SLI in DX10. Performance is great!

Are they using Havok or something proprietary on this game? I'd imagine that you're CPU limited when the software physics stuff is going on.

Pretty sure they're using Havok.

They are using Havok, but whoever programmed it in this game clearly didn't understand what they were doing. The environments are great but they needed to focus more on the physics.

Another subpar port from this team. (The people who ported SAINTS ROW 2 lulz)

The framerate issues are not hardware related. People with Core 2 Quads etc. are having the same problems. Theres a huge thread here about it http://community.redfaction.com/forums/topic/6589.

Catalyst 9.9 totally breaks the game for some reason. Sound is still borked.

With quality ports like this who would dream of piracy.

There's no framerate issue. I have vsync on and it never goes below 60 fps.

I think most of those people who are encountering problems are either using beta bleeding edge drivers, overclocking their system, or running something in the background which is eating up resources.

Also - look at the system requirements - there is nothing stating "you must use version x.xxx nvidia driver or xx.xxxx version of ati driver", nothing about "Overclocked systems are not supported", nor anything about "these are the soundcards which are not supported"...etc etc etc... This is where modern day consoles have a HUGE advantage over PC platform - you develop the game for 1 platform and ZERO variables.

Other than the sound issue [changing from 4 speaker to 2 speaker] - I don't have any problems mentioned in the thread. Then again -I'm not using bleeding edge same day graphics drivers, nor am I overclocking my cpu/memory, etc...

Is it just me, or can you no longer blast holes in walls? I tried endlessly swinging my sledge at walls and putting tons of explosives on them but not even a dent. Just black marks from the explosion. Blowing up the buildings is great and all, but if the 5+ year old original Red Faction had destructible terrain, then that's a huge step backward IMO.

The game runs reasonably well on my Core i7 920 and 8800gt, but I had to turn it down to high (not very high).

I don't play many games, but I am loving this one.
It really does remind me of GTA:VC in that I can skip doing missions and just run or drive around and blow stuff up. I finally retired GTA:VC last year, and this has taken its place as the mindless destruction king. It just doesn't get old, and when it gets close you gt a new weapon that adds to the fun.
I was getting tired of FPS games, so it's nice playing a TPS.
It's fun, not too hard/frustrating and I don't usually sit and play for this long.
I'm running it on a 3.2 Dual Core Overlclocked and an 8600GTS and it runs great (DX9). No bugs, slowdown, long load times, etc that I've heard others complain about.
I am enjoying just about everything about this game.
The Demolition Expert sidegames are fun and a nice break.
The constant soldier spawning when your enemy indicator is red was bothersome, but you're not supposed to stick around by that time anyway. :)
The one thing that I don't like is that your guerrilla helpers are complete morons and will run in front of your gun, your car, and just about everywhere else you don't want them to be, and I rarely see them actually help me.
Back to playing...

Framerates are ok on my system, but the sound is so screwed up the game is more or less unplayable.
