Red Dead Redemption 2 pushed me over the edge, I think....

Just wanted to thank everyone for the help and info. :beercheers:

Finally stopped dragging it out and picked up a Pro and God of War. My PSN account was there waiting for me after years away, which is unexpected and cool. Digging the game, and duly impressed with the graphics and performance for console. After playing for 4 hours straight, the fan was ramping up pretty high at times. It is in an open space in a 75f room with a ceiling fan, so I am surmising this is normal given the demands of the game.

Highly anticipating Spiderman and RDR2. The Detroit game, I need to checkout more about before deciding.

For some reason I thought they were bringing RDR2 to the PC.

Looks like I'll be waiting until the PS5 is released to grab a really cheap PS4 and RDR2. I can't justify spending $400+ for a single video game so I'll just wait until the console is dirt cheap and just get it then.

A LinkedIn profile of a former developer at Rockstar listed work on a PC version of RDR2.

Of course you'll probably be waiting until 2020 or 2021 to get a PC port since that's when they'll be able to double dip with next gen console versions of the game just like they did with GTA V.
Said in Homer's angry and suspicious voice - He better not be trolling us!

I am happy with the pro though, and Spiderman can't get here soon enough for me.

Pre-ordered Spiderman and RDR2. Looking forward to some web slinging.

I just traded in my original Xbox One 1TB for a $200 credit towards a Xbox One X this past weekend at Gamestop and received a free game with the purchase. Also got $50 knocked off, because a woman who had purchased it earlier in the day returned it because she didn't have internet to do the initial setup. Aside from some greasy looking finger prints all over it that needed to be cleaned off, the thing is brand new. If it weren't for RDR2, I probably wouldn't have bothered. It's been quite a while since I've played any games, so I'm especially looking forward to enjoying it in 4K.

Both games look great, but I'm so far behind on games it would be a waste to pre-order them.
I think most of us are in a similar situation; Work, family, and other commitments prevent us from gaming as much as we would like. Then the steam sales and free games from the console services pile on more yet. But, Spiderman will jump right to the top of my queue. And by the time I finish with it, RDR2 will be here. The rest will languish until the bug bites me.

Rockstar definitely knows how to make games that are addictive. I do not care if they nerf the MP stuff, just so long as the SP is a worthy successor to the first one.

If you haven't played RDR1 buy it, it looks really good on the One X.

I don't even use my PC for gaming anymore, otherwise I'd be even more screwed. I bought FarCry 5, but didn't finish it and got distracted with life. Then I heard such great things about God of War that I had to get that, and haven't finished it (though I think I'm getting close). I also have Switch games that I've been playing, some I'll probably never finish. At least I finished Mario Odyssey quickly enough, and got burned out hunting for moons so I was able to move on. I still play Rocket League a lot too, so that's often a quick go to that fills time. I pre-ordered Mario Party, and am on the fence about pre-ordering Smash Brothers even though it looks pretty good. I just won't have the time for it.

Most of my gaming time recently has been while flying for vacation and it's just been the Switch. I will be playing Toad next month on my flights and I'm thinking of picking up Dead Cells cause of the hype it's gotten, even if it has some performance issues on Switch.

Dang, I turn on my PS4 like 15-20 times each year, and even then I just watch a movie on Netflix or play SF/Kof/GGXrd offline a little. I literally wasted my last year's PS Plus subscription. Didn't even bother downloading the free games because I was playing Overwatch and D2 on XB 🙁 There are so many exclusies like you mentioned but I usually play games online and my whole fireteam is on Xbox 🙁

I do not think going forward there is going to be anything on xbox I cannot play on one of my gaming PCs. I may grab the newer X model for revisiting 360 titles like RDR when I can pick one up cheap used. BTW, God of War is a must play imo. Spiderman hits in a week, I am hyped, and have allocated time to play. Then RDR2 hits, so my PS4 pro is going to get a workout.

It admittedly has been a dust collector since I finished GoW. Already have a sony blu-ray player that has all the functions I want, and a HTPC for everything else. I am not a fan of the blu-ray software I have tried, so prefer the stand alone player for that purpose.

I have had thoughts of doing similar but I can only name four 360 games ported to XBox One that I'd want to play and can't get on PC: RDR1 and Gears of War 1-3. Plus maybe I'd get Gears of War 4 on the Scorpio since I refuse to buy Windows Store games for PC. But most of the games I loved on my 360 I can play better on PC now. Eg all the Bioshocks, COD 4 Modern Warfare, Portal 1 & 2, Half Life 2 (don't shoot me for playing it on console first lol), Skyrim, Oblivion, GTA V, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and so on. What other 360 games would you be looking at besides Red Dead to justify the purchase? Especially when some of the 360 cult hits like Nier Gestalt never got ports to XBox One.

Lol. Two of my friends/work colleagues are boycotting exclusive Win Store titles too. I'm still waiting for a couple of 360 fighters to be ported to XBox One. I'd be okay even if it's the launch edition XBO

In case you were unaware of it Steve, Gears 1 Ultimate edition looks and plays good on PC, and includes the extra chapter with the Brumak fight. (I can definitely understand your boycotting the MS store, since it is the worst delivery system of the ones I have used.) I am also in the minority that thought Gears Judgment was a good time. Playing through the campaign and accepting the challenges, like only using a boltok pistol, or fighting in heavy smoke and using bayonets, was fun. And the fights could be very fast paced if you did not honor the traditional cover shoot mechanic very much. I would definitely enjoy the Gears and Halo franchises with better fps and visuals. I did that with Halo anniversary, and it was well worth it.

As to the demo putting the gamestop crew to sleep; probably spend all their time on overwatch, PUBG, COD, fortnite, etc. Red dead is one of those games where you can get emotionally vested in your character, and the atmosphere and immersion are key elements of the experience. I fought the last throwdown with the army, probably half a dozen times, trying to save John. Knowing full well it was not possible. In Ryse there is a fight with barbarians where they take you down, I finished it with full meters, making the cut scene laughable since I was wrecking them right up until it cuts.

I was so excited for this game I was going to buy an Xbox One S just to play it. I think there's probably a decent chance of it coming out on PC, but Jesus, I really don't want to wait two years or so for that to happen. That's why I got a job, to buy shit man!

But today I discovered that you can't play the game at 4K on the Xbox One S? What the poop is that? The Xbox One S supports 4K HDR! Here's RDR2 info from Xbox's website:

Ugh, really? My co-worker told me about the Gamestop deal and that's how I find out about this: Buy RDR2, save 100 on Xbox.

It's worth noting that Red Dead Redemption 2 is an Xbox One X-enhanced game, meaning it runs in 4K and supports HDR when played on an Xbox One X connected to a TV with the corresponding features. (The S also supports HDR, but not native 4K--it's confusing).

You dang right that's confusing. The specs for the Xbox One S say it supports Ultra 4K, but that must only apply to video/Blu-ray watching. If you'e talking about games, I guess it just upscales to 4K and doesn't render at that natively?

Huh. Well... maybe I'll just get the Xbox One S anyway. I'm pretty sure the game won't look like trash if you play it on the One S, and I'm not one of those super critical people when it comes to this sort of thing. I'm just not sure getting a One X would be worth it as I'm not much of a gamer as it is! I'm only interested in getting an Xbox for RDR2, LMAO. Well, the 4K Blu-ray player is cool too haha.

Decisions! With the $100 discount, I'd be looking at $200 for the S version and $400 for the X version (at their normal prices). I'm strongly considering S version at this point.

One S has 4K HDR video (Bluray, Netflix, YouTube, etc.). Games are ~1080 HDR only on One S. You need the One X for 4K games.

My advice is pony up for the OneX. These guys cover console performance really well https://www.youtube.com/user/DigitalFoundry/featured

If you get either of the other Xboxen you will get the worst experience possible on modern consoles. The X is as good as it gets OTOH. Regardless of res it is worth $200 for a, what is often, significantly better experience. Though I personally chose PS4pro because I have gaming PCs for the xbox titles, and Spiderman, Zero Dawn, and God of War are must plays IMO.

My son has offered me a cash bribe to let him play the game first. I laughed pretty good because he has not touched the ps4 yet. He was addicted to red dead and this is the title that has him ready to become a dirty console peasant. I will let him play first out of love, but will take the bribe and spend it on any dlc the game offers.

Red Dead Redemption is available for download on Xbone.

And the fancy Xbone One X One has alleged enhancements for the game. Damn well better for 30 friggen dollars.

The PS4 I think is the clear winner for this current gen I think. There are also certain other things that can be done with it that you cant do on the XBONE..

I agree. Ps4 exclusives are better. My Xbox one s is just my uhd player now. Haven't gamed on it in over a year.
