for ~80k you can defiantly find a used 2007ish aston martin vantage w/ 10k miles... I know you said 2 years old, but the vantage is just pure sex on wheels...

997 would be hot... I personally dislike the boxster and cayman

the vette is a fun car too (i love my z06)... the grandsports are attractive, since they are available in convertible

How about a sportier sedan? Like the CTS-V, E63 and M5? Plenty of get up and go, with the plus of still being functional

I really think it comes down to personal taste... does he favor American? German? British? Italian? Swedish? Japanese?

Personally the Vantage is going to be the recommendation I take to him, or the old M6.

The problem is the custom modifications we're going to need to have done on the car.

Our driveway is on an incredibly steep gradient, so there are some restrictions as to how low and how long the car can be.

Otherwise we'll need to play around with the driveway or the suspension.

Have a trailer on a winch in the garage...

Hydrolics dude. just get a hold of your local chicanos and they'll help you right out.

some of the new porsche's have a driveway feature that raises the car to prevent damage

Yeah my friend's gallardo has that I think. I'm just trying to figure out how I can do it for my dad's car.

I can't count how many times he's had to replace the front lip on the shaguar.

This thread has so many loose ends...why not throw some of all this money at making a driveway transitition?

that may not be possible. in my neighborhood the curbs are basically U shaped trough and has no change at where the driveways are. just one continous gutter.

There's nothing that can really be done about our driveway, it's subterranean.

Short of getting an elevator, there's not much we can do.

I like my G35 and the G37 looks even better. Its a little bit on the lower end of the spectrum but still a nice ride. Although I think for someone older it may be a bit harsh, perhaps sticking with one of the cush luxury vehicles like the jag, lexus,or cadi

If I had that kind of money though for a car I would probably just save a bit more and try to get a spot on that tesla list

It's going to be a ramp up or a ramp down then...you should be able to make a better transitition especially at whatever ground level you end up at. Going down is still a problem tough for longer cars.

I think this is going to end up like your L&R posts.

Dude, those that 'have to save' should not be buying a Tesla.

Holy shit guys sorry I haven't checked this thread in a while.

Simma down nahhhhhhhhhh. This conversation is getting a little bit heated.

I think my dad is going to steer away from the Shaguars, and probably more towards the vehicles of the German variety.

As far as people said re: domestic vehicles, yeah, no domestics.

if your old man is anything like my old man, the novelty of some of these suggestions would wear off in about an hour. nissan GTR? porsche GT3? gimme a break.

i stand by my recommendation of a pre-owned porsche 911 carrera 4. if i was going to pick 1 porsche to live with every day, it would be that one. fun, comfortable, automatic, and excellent AWD. if your dad is a golfer, verify his golf stuff will fit in the car before signing.

Wow an aston martin for $80k...that is one sexy beast. Maybe I'll get one in a few years when I sell this company.

I have to wonder what the insurance is on that though

That's my point. There's no way in hell a guy who's driven a Jag sedan for the last 15 years will ever sign the dotted line on any of these. The closest thing he'll get to a sports car is a CTS-V and that's not going to happen, either. OP may as well recommend an overhauled Mustang with a V10 and NOS. Has an equal chance of resulting in a real purchase.

True. We all know he's going to end up with a Lexus. They do old really well.

Insurance is not that bad. It'll be cheaper than a young kid with a Honda Civic. Just carry like $2,500 deductible. You'll pay more for annual registration tax like ad valorem tax if you live in a state where you have to pay yearly tax. Maintenance is what's scary. If you can't afford to pay $10-20k service bill, don't bother. Not every service is expensive but if something big goes wrong, you'll pay repair bill equal to a price of a new economy car.
