I'll be going to Washington DC for a 4 days. 12/30/03 to 1/3/04. Please recommend me a few things to do and place to visit. Also places to eat. =)

I'll definitely visit all the popular sites and museums, is there anything else?

Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, The Mall, Whitehouse, Capital Hill.

<--Obviously doesn't have good recommendations for some less famous sites to visit ;)

I have never been to DC. Everyone I know that has visited recommends a late night drive past all the lighted monuments. Do not miss the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial.

Be careful at night, Chris Rock says. DC is the only place you can get shot while being shot! Hope to go back there someday myself....:)

Don't forget the National Zoo! Can't beat free admission, smelly elephants, and Pandas (if they're in a good mood; they were shy when I visited). Check out this for more attractions. The DC metro is your friend.

Any and ALL of the Monuments. Do the ENTIRE Mall. Dont miss a one. Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington Vietnam, Korean ALL of 'em

The warf is cool and bustling during the night too. I think some of the fisherman sell some boild shrimp, at least they did when I was visitng DAMN good. Fresh outta the water. Iwo Jima is cool and right by Arlington national, another two MUST see's

And of course the Smithsonian. But that's like saying "visit Florida" The Smithsonian is HUGE. Pick the topics/areas you like and hit those. (air and Space are VERY cool).

I LOVED DC... very cool city. Sadly I didnt find anywhere really good to eat.
Have a great time

The Lincoln monument and Viet Nam War memorial are very moving. Check out the Pentagon and Georgetown. If you like air planes go to the new Air Flight museum. It is located at the Dulles airport.

bah, idiots .... i love MY DC

Go to Georgetown, its a lot of fun. Bars, shopping, restaraunts, etc + dont miss the harbor front there.

Adams Morgan has a lot of good bars

Clubs I'd reccomend: Insomnia (in China Twon), Nation (near Navy Yard, but I think they shut it down, not sure), Relish, DC Spot, Cage, Diva ... lots others

Arlington Nat'l Cemetary is often overlooked, and its really worth a visit

Tysons Corner Malls, HUGE!

The Smithsonian Mall, of course (make sure u pack ur own food tho. Those hot dogs & crap are awful + overpriced)

Just stay away from South-East DC at late night

and if u're using the Metro, its closes at midnight on weekdays and 2:00am on weekends, IIRC

There really isn't much to see here except for the museums and monuments.

If you like Black Chicks, check out Howard. OMFG!!!!!! Then you can visit the ghetto right in the vicinity. Forget the monument, check out how the poor folk live in DC right up the street from the white house

Food: China town. Also, like a block to the east of the Chinatown gate is the place Lincolns assasins plotted.

Smithsonian: Air&Space is great, don't miss the CRAY relic in the modern space area :) Also, American History and the other history building are good. I think it was the American History one with a bunch of computer stuff, can't remember. Don't miss watching the videos in the antique telephone area, and that TV in the middle of the '60s living room :D

White house: You can see it... They don't do tours of it. There's a protester spot on one side of it.

Capitol building: They do tour this.

On the (north?) side of the White House is the church that tons of presidents go to, you might be able to get a tour of it if the maid is around. Top notch stained glass work!

Washington monument: Kinda cool to look at, but it was getting repairs a few months ago, so no elevator.

Somewhere a few blocks north/west of Air & Space, south of the Metro, is the theater where Lincoln was shot.

I wish I could have spent a week or more there, there's just so much to do and see. Especially in the Smithsonian. There's also some good stuff to see south of DC, down by Monticello. Plenty of other good stuff in that area too.
