Recommend me some new music! I'm bored...

I've done the Pandora thing, but it gets old. I like personal suggestions. Here's what I've been listening to for the last 5 years. Looking for stuff along the same lines.
------
Sonata Arctica (pretty much conquered every album)
Symphony X (have every album)
Circus Maximus (own their latest)
Dream Theater (just started listening to em... recommend particular songs/albums)
Evergrey (wore out every album)
Into Eternity
Nocturnal Rites
Rhapsody
Jorn Lande/Masterplan

There are quite a few bands I've tried to get into like Edguy, Helloween, Hammerfall, and such... but they don't do it for me. I don't mind the occasional growling, but I'm not into bands that only scream/growl. I like singers with good range.

If you've just started into Dream Theater, just going through their albums will give you a pretty good variety.
My personal favorites are A Change of Seasons and Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory.

Suggestions? I enjoy heavy music.

But I like the softer ballads as well.

All metal and rock though. I don't get into country, pop, or any crap on the radio.

I love Edguy, there's no growling there. Obviously Dragonforce is recommended. I also like Stratovarius (Eagleheart is an amazing song). I'm a power metal fiend. I love it so much.

Thanks for that. Definitely will check them out. Their greatest hits CD is decent... but I really only listen to about 6 songs on the first CD and skip the second CD completely. It's like night and day. My favorite songs so far are Endless Sacrifice and Home.

Dragonforce has a few good songs... but I think they're highly overrated.

Stratovarius isn't bad at all. But I haven't put enough time into listening to them.

The lead singer for Edguy didn't do it for me. Can you recommend a particular song or two to suck me in?

Try some of these... not exactly what you've been listening to but worth checking out if you're into progressive music.

Mastodon
Between The Buried And Me
Nevermore
Callisto
ISIS
Neurosis
Meshuggah
Oh, Sleeper
Opeth
The Devin Townsend Band

Try some manly metal for a change.

Suggest. And I'm not talking about metalcore.

Don't throw things like Lamb of God my way... please.

If you don't like growling try Porcupine Tree, if you do, try Opeth.

I liked Arrows Fly and Falling Down, both are on their Theater of Salvation CD.

It should be noted that I listen to music purely for the guitars and don't care about lyrics at all 😀

Even if you don't like growling, try Opeth - Åkerfeldt has the cleanest growl in metal. Porcupine Tree for sure.

Just listened to Meshuggah. Maybe I should have been more clear... that's too much growling for me.

I don't mind it, but I prefer more along the lines of 80/20 or 70/30... or just none at all.

Yeah, that's more along the right stuff there.

Opeth isn't bad at all... just need to give them a chance. I love their instrumentals.

I like Scar Symmetry as well.

As others have, I too will stress the Opeth. Opeth = pure awesomeness.
Also, Porcupine Tree kicks ass.

I'll recommend Riverside, they are a prog band from Poland that came about in the last several years.
Also, Ayreon is pure Genious. Check out "Into the Electric Castle" if you haven't already ... though All albums kick butt. (Also, look up "Star One")

You know ....
... I was typing my reply and then yours shows up now right before mine as soon as I hit post ... saying pretty much the same thing
.... shakes fist ...

Anyhow, I respect your taste in music. 🙂

Try listening to Avantasia (it's more a project than a band). Pt 1 and 2 certainly. It's a bunch of mainly power metal vocalists doing various singing parts in an opera style story.

Is Riverside all mellow? I'm trying to find something more upbeat by them.... like the voice and music, but makes me a little sleepy atm.
