Nice bands you recommended, lame for a "lifer".

Yep, classics by A7X for metalcore fans who have never heard their old stuff:

Sounding the 7th Trumpet
An Epic of Time Wasted
The Art of Subconscious Illusion

Waking the Fallen
Remenissions
Second Heartbeat live from Warped Tour 03

Some other good bands/songs:
Killswitch Engage - My Curse
Machine Head - Aesthetics of Hate
Black Tide - Shockwave (they're 15 years old, sick)
Bullet for My Valentine - Waking the Demon
The Human Abstract - Vela, Together We Await the Storm (love this band, next Atreyu but with more raw talent)
Bless the Fall - Guys Like You Make Us Look Bad - they tore this up@Taste of Chaos last month, singer front flipped into crowd from a big speaker

Okay so I've never really gotten into the metal scene and don't know much about any artists. All I know is I really like Avenged Sevenfold and crazier type rock like AC/DC. Not a fan of music like Black Sabbath. So what else might I like?

First off.. stop listening to Avenged Sevenfold NOW! They are f*cking trash. (except for first 2 cds, which were actually ok. Then they sold out completely)

Sounds like the stuff you're wanting to listen to would be more hard rock nowadays.. Metal is much crazier than it use to be ;)

Lets see... hmm..

Uhh....

sorry I don't know any thats straight up singing.. sounds like you just need to grab a bunch of the old classics, probably like that much more than anything newer.
First 2 CD's of A7X were "just ok"? ROFL they are classics. And A7X's diversity is unparalleled IMO - who can pull off 80's power ballads, piano love songs, country songs and yet still scream/growl with the best of them? Also, Syn is easily one of the best shredders right now.

Syn's good, but I doubt he'll be remembered for his guitar playing. There are people who will be remembered/are remembered for their guitars (Vai, Satriani, Petrucci, Clapton, Hendrix, Slash, blah blah blah), and then there are the rest.

Since we are on the subject of metal, whats the deal with the growling vocals? Its probably just me but the song can kick ass, but when those growling vocals kick in its totally ruined.

I like a mix of both, but if the song kicks ass then I don't mind full on growling/scream. It's somewhat of an acquired taste, I didn't like it at first but it will grow on you. Just personal preference.

Two new metal bands I really enjoy: Protest the Hero and Baroness. I'm not the greatest on sub-classification, but I would say PtH is a modern take on thrash metal. Baroness is what's called stoner metal. Some other metal bands I really like:

Shadow's Fall
All That Remains
Silent Civilian
Sabaton
