For the past 1 trillion years, it's been yahoo.com for me. But lately I can't stand the gizzillions of pictures and javascripts that spawns from every major link I click on sports, weather, news, etc... I looked around a bit tonight tried aol, bing, and google. Aside of those, any recommendations?

I've had PacBell, ATT, ATT/Yahoo for my home page since the mid-90's. (even though I haven't had their internet service in several years)
Their most recent change in appearance is the worst one yet.
While I LIKE having some of the customizable features, (various local news feeds, weather, etc) the new style and layout... is a real "buzz killer" for me.

Time to find a new place to hang my hat.

I want my page to open fast. I get new feeds in Thundrbird, and have weather in my statusbar. I don't need some trash autoselected for the lowest common denominator wasting bandwidth and time when I open my home page.

Fuck that. I want a home page that I can customize with local news feeds, local weather, some national news, and maybe a few other tidbits of garbage.

Digg and Duck are nice, but what would seal the deal would be something that replicates the old yahoo style sports page. Easy to scroll through standing , stats, and game results without the 1001 pictures. I almost think that developers of some of those format sets back in their office, tries out those page in the start of the art i7 with a terabyte of ram without any consideration for the rest of us that still use 3 year old computers.

Make your own home page on your own computer. That was the original concept for home pages. Each user would make a local page with the links they want. No ads, no scripts (unless you want them).

I like the Chrome Apps for a homepage as it allows me shortcuts to many things like Youtube, Google Music, Maps, etc. as soon as I open a new tab. Do any news-type homepages allow you to add your own shortcuts?

Which Chrome App are you using? I'm using Awesome New Tab Page, but it has some problems.

Just the default: chrome://apps/ (need to use extension called New Tab Redirect) in order to do it for all new tabs.

What's wrong with yours? I will give it a go.

I don't know what's going on at Yahoo, but the new MyYahoo page layout is horrendous, and the email has more suckage too.

It crashes occasionally for reasons I have not yet figured out.
