Edit: The review says the plot is well developed, but the game is still all about space combat. In most missions (there are 30), the plot simply tells you what to shoot.

Awesome plot. One of the best games of all time. Graphics were out of this world at the time and probably still look alright. I wish someone would make Freespace 3 with the same people who designed the plot for 1 & 2.

played GTA: vice city... was tons of fun.. for awhile...

what's a good game that you can just 'explore'. Something laid-back

explore... laid back... I'm voting Morrowind or Obllivion (when it comes out). morrowind was so openended it was awesome. you'll spend days on it not doing anything but love doing it, lol

For pure roaming around and doing nothing, Morrowind wins hands down. It's a real wide-open style RPG. Oblivion is the sequel that is coming out soon. Should be pretty sweet.

oh man I can't believe I forgot that one, it's great. It's been on my HD since it came out, I fire it up for half an hour every now and then.

I actually tried that. It's great for like 5-6 horus of gameplay... then you are FORCED to divide your plunder and start over.

dumb.

morrowind. The world is huge...I still don't even really know what the main plot is. I just robbed houses for hours.

Its called "OUTDOOR LIVING", you should try it. No one has ever explored it all, impossible with the limited play time you have when you begin.

You don't start over when you divide the plunder, you just pare down to one ship and new crew. You'll go through 4-5 crews before you find all your family, IIRC. There is a method for never having to divide the plunder as well.

Seven Cities of Gold.

Edit: And I can't believe Freespace 2 is abandonware - excellent.
