Dune.

if you like politics, sci-fi, politics, action, politics, betrayals, politics, religon, politics, history, politics..

trust me, it's awesome.

oh, and if you feel like broadening your horizons with theoretical (non-fiction) books, i suggest classics like:

the prince - machiavelli
the art of war - sun tzu

I didn't find Collapse to be at the same level, but I'd still recommend it - just read GG&S first.

Non-Fiction:
King Leopold's Ghosts - Adam Hochschild
A Problem From Hell - Samantha Power
Hegemony or Survival - Noam Chomsky

Fiction
Wind-up Bird Chronicle - Haruki Murakami
Slaughterhouse Five/Cat's Cradle/Breakfast of Champions - Kurt Vonnegut
Memoirs of an Infantry Officer - Siegfried Sassoon

I've been enjoying the Tony Hillerman mysteries. In addition to delivering good story lines, the exposition of the ancient cultures of the American Southwest are interesting.

Over the past couple years I've read through a bunch of Lee Child books. He has a character - Jack Reacher in all of these books. He's ex-military who pretty much goes vigilante and has a lot of fun doing it.

I couldn't finish that book. To me the plotlines and themes were almost identical to Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
