Recommend a setup for $1000

Can someone recommend a good setup for $1000 w/o a monitor,kb, or mouse?
Going to be used for light gaming, some basic video editing (already have usb 2 capture device), and just various everyday tasks. I think I want to go with intel on this one (800 mhz fsb).
 
Well... if you want to go with Intel... a 2.6C would probably be in your budget... don't know much about motherboards, but Asus is almost always a safe buy. PC3500 RAM would probably go the best with that processor... 1 GB if you're heavy into gaming, otherwise 512 will be fine. Either way, you should use 2 "sticks" to utilize dual memory channels. Western Digital Caviar SE hard drives are the best in my opinion... just choose a size according to your storage needs... another option would be a Raptor... VERY fast drive, but you'll probably need another drive for storage since it's 36 GB.
Light gaming... a Ti4200 would be fine... I had a Gainward Ti4200 with VIVO... never used the VIVO, but I hear it's really good... but if you already have a capture device, you probably don't need VIVO. If you wanted to go a little more future proof, the ATI 9600 Pro isn't a bad choice... it'll even overclock if you need more speed later on.

You might consider a couple 256 MB sticks of RAM so you can utilize dual memory channels (if that motherboard has dual memory channels)
 
1. get your processor from staples.
2.4C is about 141 w/ shipping and tax
2.6C is about 191 w/ shipping and tax

2. get your ram from staples too.
i got 2x 512 Crucial DDR400s for 167.78 after tax and shipping.

3. lurk newegg refurbs for your case, mb, dvd-rom, and cdrw.

4. hard drive from a sunday office store coupon/rebate deal

voila. use the savings to get you a good slk900u and oc the sh!t out of your proc.
 
Dont skimp on the psu...get a better one than comes with that case otherwise it looks pretty good.

I like UlitimateBob's setup a bit better though with the LianLi case 🙂
 
I'm sorry if this sounds insulting, but for a $1000 system a Gforce FX5600 is a very bad choice. At least go with a 9700 pro.

I think that the one above is a good setup but I want to know if there will be any compatibility issues? After tax and shipping it comes to 1021.

I don't see any incompatibilty issues. I was a bit disappointed that you didn't pick a big Serial ATA drive to go with the Serial ATA controller on the motherboard, though. Oh well, I guess that you can always buy it later.

Serial ATA is over rated... unless of course you're talking about a Raptor.
