Recommend a rock solid PSU for $ 50

X800XT PE
Athlon64 3000 (ofcourse some OC upto 2.4)
NF3 Mobo
1 SATA
1 DVDRW
A few USB's
TT case with quite alot of fans
1 GB ram

I already have a 420 watts TT which works great except its 12V rail drops to 11.3V.

Are SkyHawk PSU's good? Plz suggest.
 
i think at directron they have those superflower psus that are good.

oh wait newegg finally got that xcilo 450bl back in stock. those are made by the same company that makes antec truepowers.

and skyhawk is bad

Meridian Technology's XClio line of PSUs are Channel Well made like Antec, Enermax and others. This latest batch doesn't seem to have active PFC like they were listed before - so not as good a value as before. Still not a bad price for a quality 450 Watter. But they are split rail which I don't like - limits their flexibility.
. Some systems will need the PSU weighted in favor of the +5 rail, others more toward the +12 rail. Looks like yours will need +12V weighting. That XClio 450 or the 400 should work well for what you have listed. I've heard some good things about the CoolerMaster PSUs made by Real Power and I think I just saw one today at Newegg that was weighted nicely for a system like that. Cheap too.

Any reviews on them on reputable sites? I haven't seen them in SPCR, AT, THG, xbitlabs or others.
 
I saw a review of the 400 and 450 somewhere recently - but not one of the top sites. The reviews are on http://www.systemcooling.com . I also saw a review of the 550 on another site. The people on here that bought one and reported back all say they are nice and quiet. They have a bunch of neat features for that money - like about every type of connector known to man...

. I think I'm the one that started the XClio buzz...

It's built by Channel Well so the quality should be good look at Antec and Enermax...

My only concern would be if you have problem is XCilo going to be there when you try to get in touch with tech support or a RMA?

Not really. Channelwell just manufactures the PSU. AFAIK they're just a factory that makes PSUs. The design still comes from the PSU designers such as Antec and Enermax. Give ChannelWell a bad design with bad components and they'll make a bad PSU. Channelwell also makes their own PSUs(at least a couple years ago), and they aren't on the same level as Antec/Enermax.
 
I doubt that Antec or Enermax have any more input into the design other than cosmetic. It's more of a "one from column A" "one from column B" type of deal. Same with Meridian/XClio - about all they did was choose or specify the nice finish.

well I vote Xclio and I have the facts to back it up that it is better than the enermax EG475-VE.. prepare to be amazed hehe 🙂

i have the xclio. its pretty damn good for a stock rig. when oc'ing i saw a lot more droop then what xc is showing, but every system is different. i replaced mine with a truepower2 and its great.

i still use the xclio though, its quiet and stable and the best bang for the buck imo.
 
Zepper, that's not my understanding. I was under the impression that the entire circuit design and components are give to Channelwell by Antec/Enermax, and Channelwell will just manufacture them. I could be wrong though. Are you sure that what you said was correct? If so, the innards of an Antec and Enermax PSU should look very alike, but I don't think that's the case, especially since Antec has dedicated rails that Enermax doesn't.
 
It's all a choice from various options. If a big customer like Antec decides that multiple windings will help move some high end PSUs, they can have them. Someone has 4 separate +12 rails now. :roll: Absurd!
