My favorites would be Dell and IBM.
Dell if you want the best specs for your money. You can get really nice laptops for not that much money.
IBM if you want a rock-solid laptop and other business features, like that button that back up all your data or something. And fingerprint readers are a plus too. However, these features and stability come at a pretty hefty price tag.
 
I've had my Sony Vaio for 3 years and am quite happy with it. It has been trouble free from the day I bought it.
