Recommend a car sub/amp combo!

Looking for a decent sub/amp combo that will cost $700 max.

I used to be into Car Audio some years ago. I lost interest and since I have a new car am getting the bug again.

Let me tell you, things have changed! PPI? Bought-up! Xtant? Bought-up! Rockford Fosgate? Not sure about them anymore.

I already have a aftermarket headunit so that's not a neccesity. The stock speakers will do just fine for now. It's a 2001 VW Jetta. The only thing is I must be able to remove the box, so no large boxes. 🙂

Two local shops have recommened this-

1.) 1 12" JLw0 in box. 1 JL e1200 monoblock amp. $650 installed (includes $55 install fee, and wiring)

2.) 2 10" Rockford Fosgate HE2 subs in box. 1 Rockford Fosgate 451s amp. ~$750 installed

Ok, so what are you recommendations? Including the above and any other ideas. I can install it myself if need be.

I know someone here knows what their talking about. 🙂

By the way, I am not a bass-head. But when I listen to rap I like it to hit hard, when I listen to rock I like it to give a nice low-end.

I have an IDQ 12 that sounds awesome. I was running it off an Orion 500x1. The Orion is cool, but not reliable. I've had to send it in a few times for various reasons. Atleast it was covered by the warranty.

Given a choice between JL and Rockford, it's a no brainer. JL all the way.

Well yeah, but it a JLw0....entry-level stuff. Sure the RF isn't what they used to be, but 2 10s as opposed to 1 12. Unfortunately, there is only one JL dealer in town. I think their prices are a little high.

$179.99 JL 12" W3 V2
$299.99 JL 250/1

You can find a good enclosure for ~$50 and pay someone to install the whole thing for ~$75.

You can get the W0 for 109 if you want to save a few bucks.

edit: Your RF configuration is $350 online, not including the enclosure and install.

Sony is a joke...

Go with the JLAUDIO setup with a W3...😉

I have 2 12W6's and a rockford punch X1000.1 in my suburban ....

Well that looks GREAT too me, but.....I have to see what their shipping prices are....I live in Alaska. 2-day air is EXPENSIVE haha. but it still may be worth it.

mmmm JL

I went all Rockford and I am quite happy with their stuff... honestly I can say their stuff is better than I thought it would be... it works great..

got 2 12" RFP4212 subs and a 401s amp... toight poundage!

I'd probably go with a JBL Mono 300.1 Amp with a Alpine Type-R 12" woofers

It would prolly cost you under 200 for this setup.

Spooooon- Have you ever ordered stuff from Woofersetc.com? As I said in the PM, I guess JL doesn't allow online stores selling their products. I would just like to know that they are reliable. I understand that the manufacturer's warranty may not be valid if I purchase from them.

Isekii- Not a fan of JBL. Bad experiences with them. Just a personal thing.

I have heard good things about their mono amps.
JBL 300.1 Class D

I haven't ordered from them, but I've heard good things about them.

www.sounddomain.com
www.mmxpress.com

www.tms-electronics.com

I've ordered from those places and had zero problems. Of course, that's not to say that you won't, but they were recommended to me.

http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/USAUSX600D is a decent enough amp - US Acoustics 250W Class D mono amp - $170.

Then pair that with a North 28W-06S 11" Poseidon driver - $130 - in a DIY MDF 2 ft^3 non-cubic enclosure, and you'll have a great setup.

Though I like the sub, but a lot of car audio ppl won't like the big box or the depth of bass it puts out. Instead, I'd recommend something like the 12inch Dayton DVC in a ~1cf sealed box, powered by say 400watts RMS.

An Infinity Kappa Perfect 10" or 12" would also be a nice sub, as well as a JBL GT100 or GT120 sub powered by the same power level.

It would take at least a JL W3v2 to keep up with the subs mentioned above BTW.

Shoot- unfortunately, shipping on a sub/amp combo from these places mentioned is going to run me around $130. BOO!!!

2 12" audiobahn aluminum subs for $200 from millionbuy.com

1 db1800 watt for $350 from http://www.avionixxusa.com

This will make you deaf for less than $600

Ok, so if you guys could only order from one place on-line, which would be crutchfield, what would you get?

I would LOVE to order from the other places mentioned but after their shipping charges to Alaska it simply isn't worth it. Crutchfield is having free shipping even to Alaska.

hmmm, lets see.

talk to ben at www.edesignaudio.com and see what he can do for your shipping.

one 15A from edesignaudio. (300$ or so, i forget)

one tsunami 1100d, from edesignaudio

wiring from www.knukonceptz.com

xx feet of 1/0 ga.
1/0 to 4 gauge, distro block
x feet of 4 guage.
xx meters of rca cable.
x feet of 16 ga. speaker wire.

ported, box, built to spec @ eD.

and you will be loud.

might need some sound dampening too, lol, but that would just cost some more

their subs are amazing. i have 4 12.14k's and a db1100, and its loud. you will be very loud too, but due to the surface area, i (neglecting any errors) should be louder, and at volume 15, out of 35 on my kenwood h/u gain on the amp at 40%, its loud, volume 30 = hard to breathe.

their subs can compete in SQ with many subs multiple times their cost. also there is no label on the cone (if you can call it a cone, its flat)

just call them up, and see if they can arrange anything.

Forget Crutchfield, try Etronics.com. As always, stop by http://www.froogle.com to find the best prices, and make sure you check out all of the stores you consider @ resellerratings.com .

There's no reason you should pay for their premium.
