Received this today about a winter jacket I am selling on craigslist. I can't seem to be sure if it's a scam or not.

Hello,

Thanks for the swift response... I'm okay with the condition and price
of the item and ready for its purchase. My form of payment will be by
sending you a Money Order via UPS (overnight delivery) and I'll be
responsible for the pick-up which will be done by my mover. The mover's
fee will be included in your payment to avoid delay and to enable pick
up company to schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up of the item
at your location after payment has been cashed as i have other
properties to be moved alongside the item.

Kindly delete the posting as am totally committed buying this from
you, would have love to come over for viewing but that the inspection
of the item will be done by my mover due to my work frame,if you have
more pics please send so i can have a good look. And do get back to me
with your full name and address including your telephone number so i
can make out payment to you immediately, here is my number
xxx-xxx-xxxx.You can leave a message if I'm not there to pick your
call because am going, through a busy days recently at work.

Regards.
Pxxxx

What do you guys think?

Second sentence, "the item". Scammers never say what it is specifically. Doesn't every normal person say "iPhone", "guitar", "car", or whatever?

It's a scam. "Money Order overnighted", "Mover's fee" are words you don't want to see.

tl;dr

but seriously, whenever I inquire about items on craigslist, they are lucky if I send one complete sentence

He sends you a money order that includes the mover's fee. (You really need a mover for a jacket?)

You cash the money order, pay the "mover", and give him the jacket.

Your bank notifies you a week later that the money order was counterfeit.

You have to repay the bank for the money order, you are out whatever you paid the "mover", and you don't have your jacket.

Maybe post his/her number here, for funs?

Also, tell them you will sell it to them, and say you've done everything they ask. Nothing like making them waste some time, and getting them excited to only let them get let down to "get back" at them a bit. Tell them you've shipped it, etc when they ask.

I rarely get emails from scammers now that I put a disclaimer like 'local face to face transaction only, scammers will be ignored' at the end of my CL posting.

Yep, so they can send this very email to the other thousands of sellers. Sadly there's always a few that bite or else these scams wouldn't be as rampant.

Exactly this!

Just buy a class 3 saftey jacket, very very warm jackets - i am a "freeze baby" and in 30* weather, all i have to wear under mine is a shirt and a long sleeve and i am good

what is the exciting part about it is that the jacket isn't a 10,000 grain gortex insulated jacket its relatively light, you'll also be

surprised.

and for the record, gortex is the biggest bull-crap scam ever

This.

I'm pretty sure that this message came from a spam robot that just messages every new item post with the same OBVIOUS scam text. Even if 1 in 1000 posters are stupid enough to fall for it, I'm sure it can end up being a lucrative strategy.

I got another one the other day where they offered to pay paypal. Now what's the scam with that one exactly? They are using someone elses, or are going to dispute it or something? What's to prohibit you from hanging onto their pp to make sure it's all good?

I've gotten that same message before. I always respond telling them to F off.

Also, CL has a warning telling you to beware of transactions involving money orders and/or western union AFAIK.
