Received a package with my address but different person

One of my workplaces used to be a mail box shop several years ago (I think it closed down in 2002 or so).

Today, when i reached work, there was a package from Amazon.com (UPS shipping) with my workplace address but different person's name. (We do get USPS mail all the time with several different names b/c of the mailbox shop being here but they are all junk mail).

So I open it up and it is a laptop bag inside ($52.xx cost)...what do I do ? Call up amazon or ups or just wait couple of days or just treat it as Christmas present ? (One of my employees probably signed for it)

Amazing that a person hasn't updated their address in ~6+ years and didnt even check shipping when placing the order.

EDIT: I am thinking waiting for 2-3 days and then perhaps call Amazon on Wednesday/Thursday ?

EDIT: The Amazon's packing slip has a billing address for a city in So Cal (I am in SF Bay Area). Only have the person's billing address, no email/phone 🙁

Also, packing slip says:
"We've sent this part of your order to ensure quicker service. The other items will ship separately at no additional shipping cost" Does this mean there are more packages probably headed my way ?

Order was placed on Dec 4.

EDIT: LINK TO ITEM

I dont...I have ~4-5 laptop bags at home and only one gets used when I travel. But I am sure that I am not paying shipping costs to return it...might as well keep it if they force me to pay return shipping, right ?

I just had this happen to me yesterday actually. But not with a Laptop bag. Something substantially more valuable: T-Mobile G1, brand new in box. I haven't opened it, but there's no other information in the package at all.. Just the shipping label and then the phone.

why would you keep it? oh yeah you are nothing more then a thief who wants to be told to keep it. so go ahead and keep it thief.

While you're right, I wonder if people think about the time/effort spent returning a bag worth ~$50. Some people earn that in an hour of work, which it could easily take to: call amazon, wait on hold, deal with their return process, and ship it back.

If you think it's worth it for a $50 item, what about $25? $10? $5?

The last time this happened to me I ended up spending 2-3 hours trying to send the product back.

If it ever happens again I'm sticking the box in a closet. I'll let them track me down to get it. If I don't hear anything after 3-4 months it's MINE.

Dude - it is a federal crime to open mail that is not yours. Why would you have opened it - why not just call the shipper and have them come pick it up before opening it?

You didn't have to open it. You could have just called the shipper and had them come back and pick it up.

The guy who ordered it fucked up, he didn't jack it from anyone. it's not theft.
that said, i'd return it.

if you lose your wallet, and someone picks it up and doesn't return it, they didn't steal your wallet. you could call them an ass for keeping it, but calling it theft is taking it a bit far.

Before Christmas I had received two of something, both packages had my name on the outside, but inside one had someone else's packing slip. I called the company to make sure "Fishcake" got his Christmas gift. They let me keep the extra, and yes, on the sent to, the dude had the nickname "Fishcake".

Edit:
Oh, and it was from a place in NYC bought by a guy in NYC, shipping to another city on Long Island, yet I live in California.

Dude you are an idiot. IF you don't own it and you keep it when the rightful owner wants it back, then it is theft regardless of how you came by it.

Your wallet example is stupid. If you keep the wallet and the police somehow figure out that you did, they could charge you with a crime.
