I can't get around the spanish language in the film. avoids superfluous wordage and gets to the point. of course we all do superfluous sometimes...

I cant believe all of you who dont read subtitles. How the heck do you watch Hong Kong movies (some of the best movies in the world?)
Trust me - subtitles will be the least of your concerns if this movie looks as good as the trailers show. An English dub would ruin the scariness of the movie and if they port it using American actors it will of course suck like every other ported movie (Pulse for example - see the Japanese original to compare).

I think its been out. You would be surprised at how many Americans refuse to read subtitles. There lost though.
I saw the [Rec] at a friend's birthday party yesterday. I don't know how he got a hold of the DVD, but the video seemed legit since it didn't look like it was captured by a camcorder. The bad thing was that it didn't have any subtitles. I was able to pick up a few Spanish words, but the rest were all gibberish to me.
Frankly, it wasn't that scary. It would probably be scarier if I could understand what was going on. The acting was pretty good. Also, the character makeup and blood looked pretty well done, and I must admit that there were some freaky and hair-raising moments. Overall, I think the movie lacks more action scenes that feature the zombie characters. I hear that they are remaking the movie for a US release. The tentative title is supposed to be Quarantine.

I've been scouring for a while now, and the Spanish DVD can be imported, and it comes with shitty english subtitles. I've found two other versions of the movie (completely different, different scene order, different shots, weird, right?) so far. There's a US version in the works, but it looks like shit.
I loved the movie. I'd put it up there with Dawn of the Dead in terms of sweetness. I really like how there are no guns involved, and I think this may be the first zombie flick I've seen without firearms (Of course, the US version has soldiers and guns. Yeah. [REC] was great because of the lack of guns. The US one has soldiers with assault rifles, although I guess they come in after the incident. I'm not holding my breath for the US version, since there are already three awesome versions of [REC] available.
I liked this movie. Wasn't great but it was definately worth the watch and had a few intense scenes. Nice new twist on the standard zombie fare. Something tells me the US version, Quarantine, is gonna suck.
Yeah. The retail Spanish DVD comes with poorly written english subs, and the movie goes in chronological order. The last zombie you see is only glimpsed a few times. The second version is chronological too, but the end zombie gets a lot of screen time. The third verison I've seen skips around like crazy, not following any set chronological order.
Sounds like I saw the first or second version. Depends what you call a lot of screen time. I definately saw the last zombie very well a few times.
BTW, did you know there's a fan made version of 28 Weeks Later called 27 Weeks Later? Supposedly it's much better. Took out many scenes where Don shows up out of nowhere and some other stuff to tighten it up and increase the tension. I've got it but haven't watched it yet.

Hmm no I hadn't heard of that... Looks like it's worth checking out though!
I'll have to watch the alt version when I get home, I actually didn't watch the whole thing, just skipped through enough to verify it was not a duplicate of the Spanish retail DVD.
