Rebel flag ... for or against?

It can represent many things.

But to say that it is merely a symbol of slavery is ignorant. These people probably also think that the Civil war was entirely over slavery. It wasn't. It was about state rights and representation. Remember the 3/5ths compromise? The attempts to balance out representation.

The Union fought the Confederacy to keep country together. Abolishing slavery was icing on the cake.

I personally think of beer, american trucks, and poor people with bad accents when I see the flag. I don't like it, but I'm not going to say they can't have it.

i suppose i think of these things as well - but what is important is what these people see in it.

i have a problem with it cuz most ppl who use it not only are racist... but also are super nationalist types.

which not only makes them racist, but also hypocrits.

it stands for racism and breaking away from the united states.

you can't have your cake and eat it.

edit: also... i'll add. i don't like racists. people can have their flags and say silly s**t about why white guys are better than black guys all they want. but i have a right to also think they're absolutely horrible human beings for doing all of this.

so really... makes no difference to me if they fly their flag or not. i DO think it's a mistake to have it on state flags/buildings though as the flag does not represent the state as a whole.

????

Wrong.
I'm the super nationalist type.

Its called being a "rebel" for a reason.
Its people like me who wouldnt let you burn a union flag, as it represents the very freedoms you are excercising. To burn it is to declare you are mentally retarded and hate freedom and the unity of a democratic USA.
I am the bane to your socialist existence. Not them.

Burn the stars and bars all you want. Fly it all you want. Wear it as a headband or wipe your a$$ with it for all anyone cares.

But patriots those people are not.

I live in South Carolina, originally from NC. I think the flag is used as a symbol of hatred. Yes I am aware of the history, and if the flag was used strictly for remembering history I would be ok with it. However living where I do, the majority of people I see with those flags, tend to be racist rednecks. They are not using the flag as a means to remember history, instead they use it as a banner of racism. I just don't think it is right.

The confederate flag represents the south wanting to leave the union. Not slavery. The civil war was about keeping the union together, not freeing the slaves. It just came out that way in the wash.. lincoln emancipated the slaves but the ultimate goal and reason was to keep the union intact... war wouldnt have been waged to free the slaves..
That was another group of people who believed slavery needed to be abolished, and alot of those people didnt want to go to war over it though.

Over time slavery has gotten a worse and worse rap within public opinion, as this increased.. the civil war became more about freeing the slaves.. but the war was not fought for that cause primarily at all.

It represents state's rights.

Shhh! The liberals get pretty confrused when given facts.

States' rights as in Florida 2000?

Well, when you try to steal an election with imaginary votes, you have to expect to fail. Of course you liberals never expect to fail and that is the reason you are so upset by not being able to win through decietful tactics.

Not to confuse you, but the stock market, central government, museums and good bars up here mean nothing without cotton, soybeans, beef, pork, timber, and many other of the finer things of life which are produced in the red states and sold through New York. How long do you really think it would take us to find another cash register. We already have Atlanta, just waiting for New York to falter. I'll bet we could have another financial center a lot faster than you could grow groceries.

We're preserving farmland here in NJ. We're known as The Garden State.

😉

You better look across the river. Count the population. Think about how small NJ is. Think about how many mouths you can feed. Get out an atlas and look at the croplands in the midwest and imagine how your piddling little state could replace them in feeding those hungry hordes. Then think about the fighting and killing that would result as they tried desperately to survive on your small contribution.

I'm sure that excuse never worked with your parents. Why would you think it would work with us?

"If Johhny jumped off a bridge, would you follow?"

Grow up yourself.
Most of the southerners from the 1800's were as much slaves as the black population. Sharecroppers worked in the fields for nothing and they didn't even get a roof over their heads. America was settled by enslaved white people who got the ships with endenture bonds that took as much as twenty years to work off. You should really spend more time in the library and less time on line.

yea your states right to continue the morally reprehensible oppressive institution of slavery.
:disgust:

stop being an apologist for the crimes of the south.

If you can prove anyone is doing that these days outside of Africa or the middle east, you have better sources than I. Grow up!

and the germans are no longer killing jews. now the nazi flag is A OK!!

I guess you don't know what the Iron Maiden is either. The swastika didn't start as a symbol of NAZI Germany, but was and is a Taoist symbol of belief. The NAZI flag is also a part of history. History sets the foundation for reality. I guess that explains why liberals avoid it so adroitly!

Most people view the rebel flag as racism.

I don't think it's racist at all, I think it's anti-American. What you morons (you being the dumbshyts that wave it around "oh it's not hate, it's heritage") don't understand is, the rebel flag stands for seperation from the Union, AKA the United States. It's basically saying fvck you to America, we want our own country where we can be lazy pieces of shyt. Fvck the rebel flag and all the dumbass hick fvcks that wave it around like it's something to be proud of.

ugh, so your saying the germans can fly it now and claim its only a taoist symbol? sorry you can't erase history like that. symbols mean what they come to mean regardless of their history or origins. the most significant meaning of both the swatztika and confed flag are the worst evils of mankind causing untold suffering under both banners... so don't be b/sing. it is what it is.

rebel flag is my symbol for..... rebellion!

one day I'm gonna buy one of Dimebag's signature model guitars with the confederate flag painted on it.... it just screams METAL.

If you're an American your allegiance is to the Stars and Stripes, not some southern relic from slavery. If you want to pledge allegiance to some rebel flag you're in the wrong country.

I heard that argument from the same jerk-offs who feel buring our flag is just fine. You're not a jerk-off; are you?

BTW - Its called the Southern Cross, not the rebel flag; unless you attend UNLV.
Only when you fall asleep with your mouth open.
