But to say that it is merely a symbol of slavery is ignorant. These people probably also think that the Civil war was entirely over slavery. It wasn't. It was about state rights and representation. Remember the 3/5ths compromise? The attempts to balance out representation.
The Union fought the Confederacy to keep country together. Abolishing slavery was icing on the cake.
I personally think of beer, american trucks, and poor people with bad accents when I see the flag. I don't like it, but I'm not going to say they can't have it.
