Executive order....really? Don't let Congress vote or anything; just bypass that formality. What a dick slap to our folks in uniform by the community organizer....especially now. Apparently free everything for illegal aliens is more important for the voting base. What an ignorant piece of shit.

If you are military, have been military or have family who are military you'll understand the significance.

This is absolutely necessary. Apparently there are some killer golf courses in Argentina that Obama heard about. Oh and I am sure the misses has another shopping trip planned for Italy.

So the Pentagon tells Congress they only want a 1% raise, knowing that raises over the previous decade outpaced private sector pay growth and inflation so they can afford to trim back here a bit. Congress ignores the request maintains the existing formula which gives 1.8% raises because it's good PR and they don't have to deal with the consequences. The Pentagon knows this will have to come out of other areas of the military budget which have already seen cuts. So they go to the President to get it reduced since Congress was so nice to include a provision in the law that allows him do this as long as he provides a reason.

I was military, I have lots of friends who were/are military, my father and grandfather were both military, and I think your post is hysterical nonsense.

Well, thank God you don't speak for all of us.

How is objecting to a lower cap that ignores written law "hysterical nonsense"?

It's all good , the lower ranking personnel can be subsidized with food stamps and given free phones too.

Lower ranking people already get free food. Additionally, lower ranking members with families get large additional allowances that they would not otherwise qualify for.

Because it doesn't ignore written law, for starters. Do you even know what you're talking about?

Also, I never claimed to speak for you. If anything the opportunity seemed to be trying to speak for me.

Interesting fact: Did you know that the LOWEST PAID freshman Congress-critter makes an annual salary ($174.5k) that is equivalent to that of a 3-star General with 24 years of military service?

BAS is deducted from lower enlisted pay every month. You can look at any LES and see the deduction yourself. The rate is based on a 3 meal a day plan, which works out well for the military as most don't eat at the chow/mess hall for each meal.

Enlisted would make more money a month if they simply paid for each meal they ate at the chow halls instead of taking the full BAS deduction from their paycheck. However you slice it, meals aren't free.

Good for you....seems you might be out of touch with reality. We wouldn't want our servicemen to get rich while they are trying to not get killed. We should keep them just at or under the poverty line for our young troops. The President shouldn't worry about priorities, morale or anything especially during a time of war. I'm guessing you never experienced combat. Despite having served it's apparent you don't understand the significance.

All Congressman get paid the same, whether they have been members for 30 years or 1 year, unless they are elected to leadership positions and then they get paid slightly more.

BAS is deducted from BAS, not salary. And BAS is tax free as is housing.

Military members just like govt employees don't get raises every year or raises that barely or don't even cover inflation because they get regular step increases and regular promotions.

Just like that POS trying to fuck the military as always. I hope many of you sent out the letters / emails that are provided for in the link. I think the least they could do is stick by the law as risking your life does deserve a meager 1.8% pay raise at least. It is clear that Obama and his admin don't give a shit about anything but their own ass.

her209 you are an asshole for even suggesting that our military has an entitlement mentality. You have obviously never served anything greater than yourself.

One key difference....

Postal workers and IRS employees aren't in active war zones. Promotions have stagnated as well and the DOD is even considered freezing promotions all together due to sequestration. There is the principal of the this as well to consider. 🙄

Our resident baby boomer with his hand out for more of that government money he's been using his whole life! No surprise that this 47%er wants more. Fuck everyone else! Sequester? Sequester for everyone else but not for him! Nope, he doesn't care about party politics either, he just wants a good handout...er leader.

Just curious, since you brought it up, do service men and women get extra pay for being in combat? Do they also get special tax exemptions when in combat?

And this fucking asshole has the nerve to bring up principals? Lol!

Kinda sucks when the shoe is on the other foot, doesn't it. Maybe you will start paying attention to the partisan politics that's being played instead of blaming your favorite god.

The bolded is over the top, even for P&N.

Are you just bat shit crazy? Been drinking? Is there something wrong with serving in the military? Does that offend you somehow? Perhaps military folks should just join for free? My service pay was earned and not a hand out as you imply. What exactly is your point here?

Also, did you just call me a fucking asshole?

Is this an accurate summation? I haven't seen anyone in the thread address it.

BAS is for the service member and does not apply to dependents. An E-4 with wife and two children can meet the requirements for food stamps and meal assistance in schools.
