Here's a thought. If you live in Hawaii, maybe instead of worrying about what stand to put your TV on, you can go outside and enjoy one of the most beautiful places planet Earth has to offer. I have a fairly expensive home entertainment center and an expansive collection of DVDs, Blu-rays and video games; I'm somewhat of a media whore. But I live in Portland, Oregon; there's really not that much to see here. If I lived in Hawaii, I'd sell my entertainment center, get a beach chair and some Ray-Bans and sit on the beach watching the breasts on display against the horizon.

But I'll help you out. I'll go to Wal-Mart and pick that entertainment center up and ship it to you. Should only cost about a thousand dollars. I can PM you my Paypal account...

Living in Alaska, we have the same problems sometimes.... shipping costs are more than the actual item a lot of the time. Though, Walmart, Bestbuy, and Sears all ship here. They don't ship direct to store, but they ship here.

I do enjoy the outdoors here, but sometimes i want to enjoy doing something indoors also.

You should actually be thankful. This saved you from buying a butt-ugly POS TV stand that's probably made out of vinyl-wrapped particle board that will fall apart in Hawaii's humidity.
Koa wood would indeed make a nice piece, but it's usually ungodly fucking expensive...BUT, since you're in Honolulu, you probably have other similar options at much lower cost.

you're right. its ridiculous how much we pay here for stuff. though for some reason, gas is cheaper here (oahu) than most places on the mainland.

A guy on another forum I visit mentioned that his parents pay $0.44/kWh (!!!) for electricity, although $0.30/kWh is closer to the norm down there. But yeah, both are way higher than the US, and even most of the world I think. :Q

It seems like prices have gone up a lot recently, does most of your power come from diesel or other oil products?

i checked the electricity prices last week and it was $0.29 per kw/hr. Our HECO plant mainly use diesel to generate power.
