Real Vegan Cheese

Hope for us dairy-intolerant people:

Their Indigogo venture is fully backed:

As a bonus, it is also gluten-free (uses baker's yeast, not brewer's yeast) for those of us with the horrible combination of gluten & dairy allergies :whiste: I've tried pretty much every fake cheese on the market, even going as far as importing alternatives (like Sheese), and the best I've found is Daiya cheese (primarily tapioca & oil-based), but everyone I know who has tried it (including myself) has had, shall we say, stomach problems afterwards  At least we can get some real-beef veggie burgers to go with it...

Some of the nut cheese isn't terrible, but overall I agree vegan cheese might be the worst "vegan alternative" product currently. I am looking forward to this.

With that said, if you get some GOOD nutritional yeast (I mean fresh in a ziplock bag type stuff) you can make some amazing vegan queso.

Yeah, my buddy just got a book on high-end homemade vegan cheeses that uses nuts as the base; I'm currently tinkering around with tofu & nutritional yeast (nacho dip is my dream, lol). Although nutritional yeast is the same way as Daiya...you don't want to eat too much of it because it'll screw up your stomach, haha.

I don't understand how they can make everything else fake (ex. Mrs. Butterworth's doesn't even contain any dairy...or real maple syrup) but they can't make like Easy Cheese out of chemicals instead of dairy.

It's a bit ironic that a cheese substitute causes lactose-intolerant people stomach problems.

Yeah. Which is funny because they have pretty good milk alternatives (chocolate almond milk is amazing), ice cream alternatives (coconut milk-based ice cream is super creamy & tasty), cream (ex. cashew cream), but no one has figured out a viable cheese substitute. Daiya is the closest, but even Daiya tastes like cheddar that's been in your fridge too long & has become so mild that most of the flavor is missing. But at least it melts! And gives you stomach cramps 🙁

They have a way to break down lactose in milk, giving lactose free milk. So, I don't understand why they couldn't do this in cheese to begin with. That wouldn't satisfy vegans, but who cares about them. They aren't particularly smart.

Yeah, but I'm not lactose intolerant, I'm dairy-allergic (lactose, casein, and whey). I can't even do Lactaid (ew, btw).

"Real Vegan Cheese" :hmm:

Oxymoron.

It should be "Vegan cheese-like food product".
I saw the thread title and came in here to post the same thing. "Vegan certified cheese substitute."

Some vegans defy logic. "I don't like meat. But, I want something that tastes as close to a real hamburger as possible." In OP's case, lactose intolerance gives him a pass on this cheese substitute.

And, I hope the dairy council, or whoever, fights back if a product is named "cheese" rather than "cheese substitute."

That is real rough then. =( I couldn't imagine having so many dietary restrictions (I am lactose intolerant, but even then, it isn't that bad. I can have above average amount of lactose before I am really effected).

Might be easier to just get your own cow that you love and care for, and just milk it. That way it is still more or less vegan because you aren't harming the animal, and you get real cheese. If you don't have the space for a cow, you can probably manage a goat, which make decent enough house pets.

To those that have issues with cow milk, are you sure it's the milk and not the growth hormones? I get very sick if I eat commercial milk or cheese but I can eat all the organic gmo-free milk/cheese I want without any issues.

Kaido's problem is a milk allergy, so it isn't really about the lifestyle, as it is about being able to enjoy some kind of luxuries without dying.

Milk itself is full of growth hormones, so young calves can grow to big strong bull!

Why humanity never weaned like the rest of the animal kingdom is really kinda weird when you think about it though.

Because it's food and denying yourself food because "I think I'm too old to eat stuff" is dumb.

This is what I don't get, turning to heavily processed foods to substitute something else whether it be meat, cheese, etc. Isn't that just less healthy than just sticking to eating all natural food?

Well, in a small percentage of cases (such as Kaido's), there is a food allergy that keeps the all natural product from being eaten. In the case of vegans, it is just because they are stupid. They want to have an "animal free" existence, but are perfectly fine destroying plants (and the environment) in mass so they can eat cheese like products.

Actually, humanity has. They are just weaning themselves back onto it. Lactose Tolerance is the evolution, intolerance isn't a defect.
