I ask because... I have my Vista with a bunch of services stopped... almost nothing in memory just windows... and the firewall... and the look is just like windows 95 lol.... gray bar and such...
It was crappier a while ago, it still is crappier if you have less than 4GB of ram imo (2GB for people who run their games at "normal people" settings) but apart from that theyre pretty similar. I notice absolutely no difference from superfetch in map loading time etc, so over all vista = XP with regards to gaming.
Oh but one plus for vista is that if your game crashes (it sometimes happens in vista just like XP) and hogs the screen so that alt+tab dosent work, ctrl+alt+del always works and always gets you to the task manager to end the troublesome game. In XP with a screen hogging game this either wouldnt work at all or you would have to guess with the keyboard as the game was still hogging the screen despite task manager being the active window.
One negative for vista is that with my computer anyways windows dreamscene (the thing responsible for the nice waterfall background on the desktop) will ah heck up and leave you with a messed up screen once exiting from a full screen app.
So overall pretty trivial stuff really. Ctrl+alt+del update in vista is useful though.
