:)

your analogy works so well because nissan and microsoft are in such similar market positions

No, it works well because I used several differnet companies. By doing so, I avoid direct correlation between companies and market share, which is not my point. The point I make is that a company sells their own product. They shouldn't be forced to sell/incorporate other companies products.

Jesus H. Tapdancing Christ... use your freakin imagination. :frown:

NO Nik, a working comparison would be for Ford cars to be delievered with Ford gasoline, you COULD use other companies gasoline but it won't run as well on it and if you drive to some specific places it won't run on any other gas than Fords.

Thankfully there are better products out there than anything MS produces.

your analogy also works because lots of people wanted to force microsoft to bundle netscape with windows.

Well your logic is flawed because Microsoft was being a little bitch when companies like IBM and Compaq wanted to sell computers with 3rd party apps pre-installed (based on, say, IBM's partnership with AOL for example).

Big deal. That's IBM's choice to require 3rd party apps pre-installed. That's MS's choice to discontinue business with IBM for doing so. Yes, MS was being a little bitch. Who cares?

BTW, no I'm not an MS junkie. I'm not even running Winders anyway. :p

Exactly. This is just as stupid as Netscape demanding that it's browser come with Windows.

If we're talking about netscape 4.x and higher, I agree with you. But I fondly remember netscape 2.x and early 3.x being a great little browser which was way ahead of microsoft at the time.

Then IE started to get better. But the main reason I switched was because netscape got so much worse...turned into a bloatware turd.

I actually agree with you...I was mostly just waxing nostalgic about back when netscape was everything I wanted in a browser. Then they added more and more until it sucked total ass.

I remember back when I was originally learning HTML. I thought IE sucked because you could make text blink in Netscape but not in IE. :p

On a related note I think I remember Real player being bundled with one of the last versions of Netscape I tried downloading. I know AOL instant messenger automatically installed along with it.

congress

Congress is way too controlling on some issues.

MS is basically a monopoly, monopolies are bad for the economy and for the consumers. It will change by itself given time, we see how the free systems are gaining market week by week.

Netscape has been dead for a long time, it's all about OSS these days, if you want an alternative.

When I'm on the net trying to watch a video, if it turns out to be a Real format video I will just not bother. If it's a choice between watching the video (having to install Real player) or simply not watching the video----I'll chose not to watch the video. Real does suck bad(good).

Considering how many of the signers are saying things like "It doesn't work on a Mac, how stupid is that?", "I chose Apple, I chose iPod, and I chose iTunes", "..pathetic attempt to diss Apple's far superior product", and "Go on Apple!", I concluded that half the signers were total Mac zealots who would pay ANYTHING to support Apple, and half the signers just hate Real.

I'd be in the second half...but I didn't sign. Since I haven't tried the product, I'm not going to comment.

It blows my mind that Real is still in business. Is it just a smaller part of a large, successful company?

Actually, Quicktime is a pretty good format for video. It's got great compression quality. Just no naitive Windows support (for obvious reasons). Real on the other hand: Lets make people install our bloated ad-festering spyware installing client and see if they like us!

Quicktime has a bunch of crap that refuses to die easily when you install it. The codecs are fine, but the program itself needs some manners.

Really? The only annoying thing I know of is it puts a startup icon in your tool tray in Windows, which you can turn off by right clicking and unchecking an option to start automaticially. Other than that, it seems fine. Oh well.

I've had that come back after turning off the "start with Windows" stuff. I haven't installed a recent version though.

I definitely dig QT for the Mac though. It behaves quite well, so I don't bother with it on the lone Winders machine I've got.
