checks aren't accepted very many places here in Arizona anymore (not any places i go anyway) just because we have so many out of state 'retirees' and none of them have in-state accounts. So i use my check card everywhere. They accept visa at 99% of businesses, so i never have to worry about it.

i rarely even carry cash anymore.

I worked in Meryvn's store and I hate those people who write check.. sometimes they were just buying like 30-50 bux stuff.. I mean hey, it wasn't like 300 bux stuff... I saw them have check card but the old-minds didn't use it.. I guess they worried that people can steal money from it..

check = old women stuff
cash = old men, teenagers stuff
credicard and check card = young adults who want fast service..

those who write check at safeway and stuff are just pissing me off while I am just buying myself a bottle of coffee.

Wait your turn , or get up earlier.
Either way, get off my back....
Writing a check doesn't incur a fee for me to spend my money, whereas a terminal fee will most probably apply if I used the bank card.
Want to give me the money for the fees? Didn't think so....

I dont think ive EVER been behind a person who had their DL already written on their check... You must be in the minority...

Terminal Fee? I've never been charged one and i use my check card EVERYWHERE. Its not like your taking money out at a different bank or something, i think almost every bank gives free usage of their check cards at stores.

I use a check mainly to curb my impulse to spend, and to have a better record of how I spend money. It's also nice to have that security, and to keep my MC transactions to a minimum.

I had mine printed on my checks, for that exact reason. From what I've seen, more and more people are doing that.

When I order checks I have my DL# added. This way I rarely get ask to show my license.

I prefer it over a check card because I spend less and can save more. They are sorta like a charge card - too easy not to use. :)

I feel sorry for all you that are in such a hurry everywhere you go.

When I write a check, I do it very quickly.
But, after reading how much it iritates you impatient people, maybe I should start taking my time. After all, what the hell are you going to do about it? Give yourself an ulcer? Have to wait one minute more? Find another line? I really don't care. If I want to write a check for a stick of gum, I will. :p

Being impatient and pissed off at the check writer isn't going to make everyone comply and use a check card or credit card just so you can get through the line 45 seconds faster.

Check cards generally cost the store $0.35 or 4% of the transaction, whichever is larger.

I think I can safely say that I, and my boss, only likes checks after they haven't bounced. False/out of date info + bad check = store just ate that loss.

Credit/debit/check card. slow IMO. If you pay cash I'd have you out the door before the plastic would've even cleared.

Cash quick and simple. Easy to steal, but also easy to trace. If Bob's drawer keeps coming up $10 short (and nothing else is $10 over) then it's pretty easy to tell that Bob is stealing cash.

If you are every gonna steal from yer employer steal products not cash. Product theft is much harder to pin down than cash theft is.

I work retail and im with you. It bothers me when im running the register, or when Im just a customer somewhere else.

It would be so bad if people would have them filled out 90% before they got up there, I mean you should know if you have enough cash or not, if you don't start filling out the check while your waiting.....

Im the fastest cashier where I work and I hate ringing someone up in >30 seconds and having to wait 3 mins for them to even find their checkbook :|

What are you smoking in your pipe? If a check bounces, the company eats close to 50 bucks a check, assuming that the money from the original purchase is actually recieved.

That is, unless you're NOT dealing with deadbeat customers, which in most cases isn't a possibility.

Edit: fvck, beaten by Lethal

H'MMMMmmmmmm really... I guess you're so sure of yourself you say "I THINK ALMOST EVERY BANK...." Check Card = ATM Card at MOST BANKS.
Well, I think I like my checks anyway, so you do it your way and I'll do it my way.... that's the American WAY ... and another thing

I'll pay any damn way I want. If I have to count it out in change , you'll be really pissed then and there isn't any drivers license to bitch about. If you don't like it, find another line.

This is a wise person, with many things to teach young people.
You would do well to heed their words.

I once wrote a check in UCF campus bookstore for a $0.15 pencil.

They had a check-only line that was shorter than the cash/credit lines.

Other than that its usually cash, or credit card for over $50.

I couldn't agree with you more. When I'm in line behind one of those yahoos writing a check, I just shake my head. Checks should only be used if you're not currently connected to a bill-paying service.

In reality, it takes what, 30 - 60 seconds to wait for someone writing a check?
Are you really in that big of hurry?

I got in the express line behind a girl with just under the limit of 15 items for express.. I was buying some beer with my friend waiting in my running car.

Okay.. so now she pays with a check.. in the express line.. Her pen didn't work. Then the cashier couldn't find her pen. Then the cashier walks over to the front desk, gets a pen, and hands it to the girl. Then, the girl writes a check. Then the cashier looks over the check and copies down the driver's license number. Then, I finally get to the register with my beer. My beer was warm by then.

Is it just me or are checks about as anachronistic as typewriters these days? Let me see, I can write out a piece of paper with some numbers on it and hand it to you for payment? You might as well write "I.O.U." on it!

It just seems like an outmoded form of payment in this electronic age. Now that I'm using an online service to pay my bills, I don't even know where my checkbook is these days.

Hahahah. I write like 6 checks a month:

Cable/internet/phone.
Cell phone
Ford
Mortgage
Electric
Water

Everything else, I use the check card or I can pay online
