With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it :grimacing:

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

I finally got a "go" on a build order that I had received at the beginning of the summer. I really hoped that RDNA4 would be ready. It feels like the market is so stale.

No.

So the "dad" build is a 7800x3D MC combo + $370 XFX 6800 (he had price point and said he'd update GPU in 4-5 years and is coming from an 2600/RX460 (lol))
The "surprise" build for his son who just graduated college is a 7800x3D MC combo + $600 Power Color Hellhound 7900 XT. He is coming from a 2600x/RX580 and I was told to "make it nice" so we've got a 48GB ram kit, Torrent case and Corsair RX1000 watt PSU.

If the RDNA 4 cards had been out at the hinted at pricing they both would have been RDNA4, no doubt.

4K is still mostly a waste of money for 3D gaming (I say this sitting in front of my 4K monos) and 1440p is still the prime cost/perf target
IMHO lots of VRAM for larger textures and higher poly geometry is more important to me than resolution.

I stand by my earlier prediction. CES at the earliest for RDNA4 (and Zen 5X3D).
It just seems how AMD does things now.

Not sure why people think that the X3D release date would affect the Radeon date one way or the other, as RGT is implying.

If AMD was confident releasing X3D sooner and thought it would help cure their Zen 5 launch rather than creating a worse quagmire by releasing another half baked product, they would.

RDNA4 release will be a combination of "is it ready?" and "our gaming revenue sucks right now, we need a boost" vs. "we sill have old stock to go through" vs. "what is nv doing?" How the launches of RDNA4 and X3D could affect one another is like, hundreds or items down in terms of priority for each one.

It isn't linked. But it lines up anyway. RTG needs time to reduce RDNA3 (and RDNA2 lol) inventory. AMD needs time to get issues resolved for Zen 5 and the X3D part will need fresh testing.

and RDNA2 lol
RDNA 2 could be finally coming to an end

If that happens then it is just a matter of redirecting 7900 GRE stock to 7900 xt

Then navi 48 can be launched as 7900 ($600)
Cut down navi 48 as 7800 ($480)
Navi 44 as 7700 ($330)

!!!

I'm watching AMD's Gamescom show right now and it's obvious they're not going to show anything.

They're not even bothering to do any presentation in English. They're only doing stuff for their local audience in German.

What happened finally ? Not even the cut down navi 33 or new RoG ally ??

Have you got a link to it? Tried and might have had the right stream but it was just a bunch of goons handing out t-shirts.

Yes, AMD's marketing team continues to surprise everyone but in the negative way.

They announced their Gamescom event, where they announced new graphics cards in the past, with their global social media accounts.

And then the event was a bunch of German GenZs on a stage speaking German to a microfone and handing out stuff to random people in the audience after doing some quizzes and stupid games.

At some point they had an elbow planking contest between two random dudes in the audience who didn't even last a minute, and that's when I tuned out.

It was honestly a bit depressing for me to watch. I'm twice their age and I would've smashed their times.

This is just disrespecting your fanbase. Making your fans do tricks like dogs on stage for prizes which are likely just marketing props shows how unprofessional and how little they think of their attendees.

Meh, it was an event for 16 year-olds doing 16 year-old things. They were there because they wanted, and the presenters were local influencers.
Or at least I hope they were local influencers, because at some point they were signing the giveaway laptops and it would be weird if they put randos signing the merch.

What was really disrespectful was using their global channels to tell their global audience to go watch a mediocre local event spoken in German.

Who expected anything?
I don't even know why you people are mad here.

It's a bunch of wishful thinking. Your expectations were wrong. Whoever you are listening to that got you hyped for a launch of RDNA4 before December 2024 is wrong. There is no reason to expect RDNA4 launch with the existing inventory. November is the month to solve inventory and CES is a good time to launch it.
