She's already financially compensated. Ray has already made some $25M and will, more than likely, play in the NFL again. From the tape you can see Ray's reaction after he cold cocks her. Nothing at all...very non-chalant about it as if he's seen this before. He's cold and uncaring as he drags her out of the elevator and leaves her on the floor with her skirt halfway up her ass. My gut tells me this isn't the first time he's struck her. That leaves me to believe she was a battered woman first and a rich woman second. She isn't going anywhere. He's spent years cultivating the thought processes in her mind where she equates him to her well-being and livelihood.

Everyone with more than an 8th grade comprehension level knows she married him to cover this up.

Yeah, doesn't seem like a "battered woman" to me. Seems more like a case of 2 people who have a screwed up relationship with each other that is mutually physically abusive.

So 30% of 50% is 15%. So in relationships in which a woman is physically abused for US couples 18-28(ie Ray Rice demographic) there is a 77% chance the woman is also physically abusing the man. The tape seems to back up that stat.

Here's the thing though. He admitted to all of that to everyone.

Goodell is fucked, let's count the MAJOR missteps he has personally made regarding this single case:

• Gave a 2 game suspension to a player who admitted to hitting his SO, knocking her out, then dragging her out of an elevator.
• Came up with new standards for punishment for spousal abuse, while you might thing this is good, he did NOT apply this punishment to this case.
• Applied new punishment to the case, but only after a new video was released which shows exactly what Rice admitted to. Nothing new except public outrage, he didn't respond to the problem, he responded to the publicity.
• When he did apply a new punishment he ignored the guidelines he JUST published for these cases, giving Rice a clear path to fight the punishment. The Raven's already cut him, he could have applied a 6 game penalty and let the owners deal with this mess. While this isn't the best option it'd have put the heat on any owner willing to hire the guy.
• Apparently had the video in his office for 5 months. Denied having seen it. He is either grossly incompetent or lying. Either would be ground to call for his head, and people are starting to do it.

They don't need her consent to press charges. They need her consent for her to testify since they are now married. She can't be forced to testify against her husband. Normally, that's a deal breaker, but in this case they have multiple camera angles of the entire thing. They didn't need her testimony to press charges.

Well you just threw a huge wrench into with the consent part. If it was a sexual setting, consensual, and there was video I think the DA would have a hard case to prove if the wife was saying she was into it. There'd likely be a ton of other evidence, S&M equipment, perhaps other videos, witnesses to the S&M lifestyle (maybe they talk about it to friends), etc.

The DA would have to prove assault w/o the wife's testimony, but it despite it. If she goes on the stand saying "yeah, we do this all the time, I like it", then the case won't really go anywhere. The DA would also have to discredit the wife, something they likely wouldn't want to do.

I just don't understand why the NFL can't (or won't) divest themselves of these toxic assets. I'm talking guys that get drunk and kill people, guys that beat their girlfriends/wives, guys that are caught up in situations where people end up dead, multiple DUI's, multiple drug infractions, guns/weapons charges, and the list goes on and on.

Why does the NFL just not cut ties with these folks and let them go on their merry way? They can go play in the CFL if they want to continue their football career...or hit the Arena leagues. I don't buy the argument that they can't "make a living" if that happens.

Just cut them loose and let another player slide up in the rotation.

It's amazing what lengths the NFL and their fanbase will go to in order to look the other way. There comes a tipping point where you have to take a stand...either these sports leagues clean up or society just shuts the fuck up and accept the players along with all their baggage.
