Ray Rice Cut By Ravens

She's already financially compensated. Ray has already made some $25M and will, more than likely, play in the NFL again. From the tape you can see Ray's reaction after he cold cocks her. Nothing at all...very non-chalant about it as if he's seen this before. He's cold and uncaring as he drags her out of the elevator and leaves her on the floor with her skirt halfway up her ass. My gut tells me this isn't the first time he's struck her. That leaves me to believe she was a battered woman first and a rich woman second. She isn't going anywhere. He's spent years cultivating the thought processes in her mind where she equates him to her well-being and livelihood.

Everyone with more than an 8th grade comprehension level knows she married him to cover this up.

Watch the tape and notice how she is obviously acting aggressively towards him, backing him up in the elevator...

Yeah, doesn't seem like a "battered woman" to me. Seems more like a case of 2 people who have a screwed up relationship with each other that is mutually physically abusive.

in a study of 14 000 young US couples aged 18-28 years, found that 24% of relationships had some violence and half of those were reciprocally violent. In 70% of the non-reciprocally violent relationships women were the perpetrators of violence. Reciprocal violence appears to be particularly dangerous, leading to the highest rate of injury (31.4%). This may be because reciprocal violence is more likely to escalate.
http://pb.rcpsych.org/content/35/1/33.1.full

So 30% of 50% is 15%. So in relationships in which a woman is physically abused for US couples 18-28(ie Ray Rice demographic) there is a 77% chance the woman is also physically abusing the man. The tape seems to back up that stat.

she was far from a threat to him in that video. had ray just shoved her back away from him, like a push to the chest, and she fell and hit her head, then got knocked out, people's reaction to this video would be WWWAAAAYYYY different.

but he didn't. he wound up and punched her in the head.

Someone sounds like a sexist there.

Also, not sure why you are exactly expecting restrained "rational" actions from a possibly intoxicated person at 2am in the morning.

so you're saying a 120lb chick flailing her arms at a 220lb guy who is a world class athlete is a threat to the point that you have to knock her out?

get real.

If a dude tried to pick a fight with someone bigger than him and got punched out would you react the same way?

Also, as I pointed out you are attempting to think about this rationally. Do you think that an intoxicated guy at 2am in the morning with some crazy chick getting in his face is going to be?

also, also you appear to have missed:

Here's the thing though. He admitted to all of that to everyone.

Goodell is fucked, let's count the MAJOR missteps he has personally made regarding this single case:

  • Gave a 2 game suspension to a player who admitted to hitting his SO, knocking her out, then dragging her out of an elevator.
  • Came up with new standards for punishment for spousal abuse, while you might thing this is good, he did NOT apply this punishment to this case.
  • Applied new punishment to the case, but only after a new video was released which shows exactly what Rice admitted to. Nothing new except public outrage, he didn't respond to the problem, he responded to the publicity.
  • When he did apply a new punishment he ignored the guidelines he JUST published for these cases, giving Rice a clear path to fight the punishment. The Raven's already cut him, he could have applied a 6 game penalty and let the owners deal with this mess. While this isn't the best option it'd have put the heat on any owner willing to hire the guy.
  • Apparently had the video in his office for 5 months. Denied having seen it. He is either grossly incompetent or lying. Either would be ground to call for his head, and people are starting to do it.

she didnt try to "pick a fight" she flailed her arms at him.

also, she is not "just a woman". she is his fucking fiance (now wife). it is different than a stranger doing that to you which would have been the case in the other scenario you are trying to bring up. that is a big difference. it wouldn't even be domestic violence if it was a stranger, it would be something like aggravated assault.

stop trying to compare apples to oranges.

and no i didn't miss your other comment, and i don't disagree with it. it's obvious from the way he reacted that they are in an abusive relationship and that this isn't the first time something of this nature has happened.

So your argument isn't that she tried to "pick a fight" its that she "started a fight"?

And he is her fiance (now husband).

Rice and Palmer were arrested by Atlantic City police shortly before 3 a.m. Feb. 15 at the porte-cochère of the Boardwalk casino. Both were charged with simple assault-domestic violence.

Even the cops thought it was a mutual affair.

It seems pretty clear that the issues in the relationship go both ways. But for some reason a lot of people want to pretend that Palmer is a poor battered woman.

It's crazy that the video needed to be leaked in order for everyone to blow up. What the hell did people think when they saw the initial video of him dragging his unconscious fiance out of the elevator?

The fact that he was given a mere 2 game suspension and the fact that the justice system let him off pretty lightly is just outrageous, especially given the video evidence available.

I haven't seen this address anywhere. What can the law really do if she isn't pressing charges? What options would they have?

They don't need her consent to press charges. They need her consent for her to testify since they are now married. She can't be forced to testify against her husband. Normally, that's a deal breaker, but in this case they have multiple camera angles of the entire thing. They didn't need her testimony to press charges.

But he was indicted by a grand jury, which would allow him to be prosecuted. And from a cursory google search, at least some states allow for domestic violence prosecutions, even with non-cooperating victims. And with the camera evidence, the state wouldn't have to force her testimony (but regardless, the state couldn't force testimony since they're now married).

i dont even know wtf point you are trying to make at this point.

That's why I am asking, because I don't know the law regarding this. Say for example there is a couple that is into hardcore S&M including knocking each other the fuck out, and they happen to be caught in public on camera, did they really break any law? Maybe Janay likes to get beat up? I'm just curious.

I don't know if he is aware of the fact Rice spit on her twice, once while coming to the elevator, and the second time inside of the elevator.

Spitting on someone is an assault, and she was defending herself and he peiced her up.

Got anything to say, Nahalem, you woman hating bigot?

More fun decisions coming up....

Hardy in Carolina was found guilty of domestic abuse. Commish on the clock!

Well you just threw a huge wrench into with the consent part. If it was a sexual setting, consensual, and there was video I think the DA would have a hard case to prove if the wife was saying she was into it. There'd likely be a ton of other evidence, S&M equipment, perhaps other videos, witnesses to the S&M lifestyle (maybe they talk about it to friends), etc.

The DA would have to prove assault w/o the wife's testimony, but it despite it. If she goes on the stand saying "yeah, we do this all the time, I like it", then the case won't really go anywhere. The DA would also have to discredit the wife, something they likely wouldn't want to do.

I like how all it takes to summon nehalem out of P&N is to post something about women.

His abused white male alarm goes off and he comes running and whining, posting toaster logic.

I knew better than to post what I did, only encouraged him. I wasn't aware (one of) his particular nuttiness was around women.

Perfectly posted...My feelings exactly...except you are better at making it sound gooder!

Goodell is going the route of "someone had it in the office but I didn't see it". OK, so you're passing judgement w/o seeing a video of the incident, when your office has it.

Grossly incompetent it is. Remember ignorance is not an excuse.

This thing still has steam, when it shouldn't (normally). That steam isn't being applied to Rice, he's already cooked. Goodell/NFL is the only one left dancing. He might get away with restructuring to save his job but I doubt it.

I just don't understand why the NFL can't (or won't) divest themselves of these toxic assets. I'm talking guys that get drunk and kill people, guys that beat their girlfriends/wives, guys that are caught up in situations where people end up dead, multiple DUI's, multiple drug infractions, guns/weapons charges, and the list goes on and on.

Why does the NFL just not cut ties with these folks and let them go on their merry way? They can go play in the CFL if they want to continue their football career...or hit the Arena leagues. I don't buy the argument that they can't "make a living" if that happens.

Just cut them loose and let another player slide up in the rotation.

It's amazing what lengths the NFL and their fanbase will go to in order to look the other way. There comes a tipping point where you have to take a stand...either these sports leagues clean up or society just shuts the fuck up and accept the players along with all their baggage.

Goodell himself has made it clear that ignorance isn't an excuse in the case of Sean Payton. He's just a dumbass and a liar.
