I know information is slow in coming, but I was wondering if anyone knew when we could expect some Raven Ridge products? Two people I know are looking to get new laptops. I think it might be worth waiting until 2H 2017 to see what RR has to offer. I'm just not sure how long they are willing to wait.

Are we looking at more of a Q3 or Q4 release? Knowing AMD, I would expect Q4. I have heard we won't see Raven Ridge in desktops until 2018 even, but I am not sure if there is any truth to that.

I'm guessing we will see quad core parts with some variant of Vega attached? Or maybe still Polaris? Either way it sounds like it will be an awesome platform. It is certainly going to be a huge market for AMD, just like servers. What we have gotten so far is great for us enthusiasts, but I think the best of Zen is yet to come.

One configuration is 4 Zen cores and 704 Vega shaders. 2017 for BGA, and 2018 for PGA.

Wouldn't it be interesting if we saw Vega CUs released in Raven Ridge before we saw them released in dGPU Vega?

(for anyone wanting to buy Vega that would suck, but still . . .)

Hope amd will give us quad core, 8 thread laptop for intel i5HQ prices.
add an igpu around intel's iris graphics, we have an i7xxxxHQ killer.

I am waiting for a RR desktop, as I don't game enough to buy a descret gpu. If it is not coming until 2018, that is a problem, as I don't think I can wait that long. Hopefully we get more details soon. I won't buy zen until they have a gpu included.

Seeing how well the Bristol Ridge A12-9800 65W desktop part performs in games, Raven Ridge should be revelation.

4C Excavator --> 4C/8T Ryzen grants proper SMT and something like 50% IPC (greatly reducing CPU bottleneck)
8CU GCN 3.0 --> 11CU Vega will be, what? 30% gain?
Better high-speed DDR4 support + Infinity Fabric
Full hardware encode/decode HEVC, etc.

Of course, at what price? Ryzen 1400 is $169 for 4C/8T alone, so the top-end Raven Ridge will be... $219?

The rumored release date is still late 2017/early 2018, so I guess we'll just have to wait. I hate to wait.

Since it will have only one CCX, and I suppose 11 CUs are similar in size to CCX, so the die should be more or less the same as for Ryzen. So top part can be priced at $170, probably even less. But as discussed on Polaris thread, IGP will still be slower than $80 RX 550, not to mention $100 RX 560. Therefore, those APUs will be interesting only for people who don't need fast GPU, and I suppose they'll go for cheaper APUs, like $100 A8/A10 we have now, with 4 CPU cores and 6CUs. For gaming, G4560 + RX 550/560 would be better choice than any APU.

Good thing is, GF has improved process and yield so production cost should be much lower than it was last and this year. But if there is 4c/8t APU, it has to be more expensive than R5 1400/1500X. So they can either put it above $200, or decrease prices of R5 models. Even if there is no SMT in 4 core models, it will be at least $30-$40 more expensive than R3. So probably the same as R5 1400

In my opinion, the best thing for AMD would be to have "half-CCX" (2c/2t and 2c/4t) and 4-8 CUs and produce 100-120mm^2 chips in $50-$100 range

The best thing for AMD is to forget about any 2C/2T.

We have to wait and see, but at this moment, I think it will be slower than G4560 + RX550 ($140-$150). And for sure if RX 460 or RX 560 are used. Even with more CUs (RX 550 has 8, RR up to 11) and better architecture (Vega vs Polaris), 40 GB/s bandwidth is just too low for gaming purposes

It depends on what design we are looking at. Its obvious that the higher memory bandwidth you will have the better results you will get with the APU.

If there is a design with HBM2, and according to rumors that I have heard: https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/vega-navi-rumors.2486940/page-82#post-38856379 there is, I think we might be surprised with the performance of them.

4C/8T+16CU's + 4 GB of HBM2 Ryzen 7 1800G for 399$@95W TDP? I would love...

The point of a CCX is a bus for multiple building block core units. the zen cpu cores are 4 core & 8 t. a ryzen ccx is two of them, each with 4MB cache.

so half a ccx is 4c 8t, just as raven ridge is - the ccx is a cpu unit and a gpu unit on the same ccx bus.

with the obligatory single channel RAM of course.

The same way we have to read the same old dead beaten urban legends ad nauseam...

There s no native single channel BR laptop in this list, even the cheapest one is 2C.....

lol that's a german website? Maybe germans are smarter.... but here in america, this is all I see:

If that is dual channel, I will eat my sock. But the problem is half the time you just dont know. Nobody knows. People actually ask the question on newegg and it doesnt even get answered.

The only good thing about all this is that the newer systems have a lot more memory, like 12GB, so you almost have to assume that is dual channel. But again it is near impossible to find out for sure.

If it's 12GB, it's 8+4, and that can't be dual channel, as I know :) But it means you can probably remove4 GB module, add another 8GB and get DC
