Please review my computer in my sig and tell me if you would game on it, and any upgrades you might do before a complete upgrade to pci-express. Mucho Thank You

You spent too much on the Leadtek Oc card. Should have bought a regular 6600GT 🙂,
Maybe add a 36 gig raptor. ALso, Asus deluxe=nono 🙂

obviously difference in opinion is great. While you don't recognize the benifits of a fast hard drive, I like the extra snappy feeling it gives.

IMHO if you wanna increase the life of your PC, just get a 6800GT/X800XL and OC your Venice a bit more (2.4-2.6Ghz perhaps?)

I overclocked my 6600gt myself with coolbits 2 and monitor it with rivatuner.

I use the via sata controller(the fast one on my motherboard) so no overclock for me. I would have to use my ide drive to overclock and that just seems stupid. I like the speed of my seagate 160 sata ncq. The promise controller on this board just sucks, so that's out too.

u can get an x800gto2 for like $200...i don't know how much you spent on your 6600GT...

do not get any raptor. stick with a 250GB SATA II or at least 160GB. almost as fast. faster in some benches. definitely cooler.

ok u already have a SATA drive, just saw that. if u really want a faster HD, just raid it.

good choice on the ram

good cpu, u can get a 3700 San Diego though.

Asus is a good board but the DFI is a much better OCer

7/10

Do you own the raptor? It isn't hot as all (at least it the same temp as my DM10 @ 35C).
Also the main advantage of the raptors is the transfer speed, it's the low seek time it provides, therefore raid 0 of 2 SATA drives certainly won't help a bit.

However, in his budget range, the raptor is surely not something he should be considering.

He could probably get the x800gto2 because it's much better value.
also that specific ASUS board is a nightmare and I had to return it.

Would a x800gto2 be a good upgrade from my 6600gt? As is now I get 3500 3dmark05 on current setup. Just looking for prudent advice from you hardcore people😎

GTO^2 is not AGP

Overall it's a decent mid-level system, although you can run that chip a lot faster than 2 GHz, so I'd say go ahead and overclock it. A 3200+ Venice should be good up into the 2.6 to 2.8 GHz range. The graphics card will handle most games at decent settings, and everything else looks fine for gaming. It's not top of the line, but it'll get the job done (especially if you overclock that CPU).

Yes I would game on it...its a very decent system....i have that mobo...its a very stable board with good agp performance...not the best oc'er via the VIA but decently oc's...Dont know why so many give this board a bad rap...Its one of Asus's best sellers...You could probably do 2.4-2.6 depending on your oc knowledge and RAM settings. Nice rig.😉

i would of changed alot but that is just me.

i would of never got that ram way to expensive for the price why didnt you go pci-e ? why not get newest technlogy when it's taking over agp. you should of done your research next time make sure you do.

Yes I know I messed up but I bought the 6600gtagp for my aging dell 8200. Then started looking at building my own and wanted to save some cash 187.00 to be exact and stay agp. This is my first build, I know I messed up.

Overclocking, can I overclock on the VIA Sata controller? I read I should use the promise or ide to overclock and lock the pci/agp lock? What would happen if I went into bios and set auto overclock at 10%? I'm kinda a nub here🙁 When I used the promise it kinda defeated the speed the via controller offers.

Am I stuck with this in a jacked kinda way?

No idea, the Asus forums would probably be a better place to ask, although if your board is anything like the MSI board with the same chipset, you should be safe going up to 220 MHz on the FSB even if you're using the Via SATA connectors. Any higher than that and you risk HDD corruption, at least on the MSI board anyways.

For your CPU, almost certainly (in fact, it should easily take 20% to 30%). For the rest of your system, check the Asus forums. The risk is that *if* the SATA controller isn't on a locked bus, then overclocking the CPU also overclocks the controller, and the Via controller will not take more than about a 10% overclock.

i have the exact same rig almost. the only thing i really wanna do right now is upgrade to a 6800gt, or maybe even a x850. everything else is completely sufficient. overclocking is safe. make sure you use the 1014 bios. and, set the pci lock to 66.66/33.33. also, USE THE PROMISE HDD CONTROLLER!!!!!!!! i screwed myself soo bad by using the via one.
