Has the arrival of this demo on PSN brought back anyone else's faith in PS3? Heavenly Sword redeemed it a little, but the R&C demo has made me a happy PS3 owner once again.

an individual game that is unreleased will not really determine the worth of a console. But with some heavy hitters on the line-up of games to be released through spring of '08, PS3's 'worth' should shoot up as soon as a few of the upcoming games are reviewed (IF they are highly rated, that is).
Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted could definitely help sell the idea that the PS3 may be worth owning at the $399 price point, if they are highly praised upon release. Haze may turn out to be something if it has any of the success that Timesplitters did. Hopefully multiplayer is great like it was in TS, and hopefully they market that.

Actually if all prophecies hold true and Final Fantasy XIII turns out at least ok, then it will make the PS3 purchase all worth it. And all I've seen are 5 screen caps from it, LOL.

how the hell did you get PS3 defense from that?

you just want to, at all opportunities, infer that I am some sort of fanboy. Get over it already.

I wasn't trying to defend, just stating the obvious. Please tell me how you see otherwise.

I was stating how single unreleased games typically don't sell a system, not saying that any certain game is going to be guaranteed success and sell millions of PS3s.

And I won't argue that a game that is released and is hyped well won't sell a system. Mass Effect will sell a lot of systems. But I do want to retract my earlier statement, as if a game is hyped right and is pretty much destined to be a great game, then it will sell systems if other games are also out. Such as, Final Fantasy XIII will sell PS3s, but I doubt too many of those people will buy it with only FFXIII in mind, and have other games in mind that had been released beforehand or are also upcoming and expected to be great.

This was not a PS3 defense, merely me applying my thoughts to a system that hasn't been doing well due to a lackluster library, but has the potential to do well, dependent on how good upcoming games are.
Defense? Hardly. Just casual observations that everyone should see.

here's a non PS3 related comment if that's what you so desperately want
Gears of War in turn helped sell a few 360s, because people wanted to play it when it came out, but they weren't just buying the system for that game because they knew Halo 3 and Mass Effect were coming out this Holiday season. You get kind of a 'planning' mindset, looking to what games are coming out and which ones are already out, judging when to buy a system based on the quality of the library now and in the future.

it does indeed look better. I'll reserve judgment until the full release, but the demo was exactly what I like in platformers.

Did you even read his post? How did you get he was defending the ps3 from that? At most, it was a slight acknowledgment that the PS3 may even become a teeny bit worthy of some of it's price after next year.

R&C is one of the games that's stopping me from getting the 360 (that and I'm broke). Does the 360 have any platformers of the same caliber?

Ratchet and Clank is going to be the first brand new game that I buy for PS3. I played the demo when I reserved it about a month ago and it kicked ass, although there was noticeable tearing in the demo. I have yet to play the demo on the PSN but I'll get around to grabbing it this week, and I sure as hell hope the tearing is fixed. The graphics other than that are phenomenal and probably the best I've seen on PS3 thus far.

Ratchet and Clank however is definitely not a system seller.

I will be definately buying this one, I was very impressed with the demo. I didn't notice any tearing on the PSN demo, but I am not terribly sensitive to that type of stuff so YMMV. ( I did notice quite a bit on the Heavenly Sword Demo though )

Release date still October 30 ?

i've heard that this demo is from a newer build than the gamestop one, and i've also talked to my friend who is as picky about tearing as I am and he said he didn't notice it so I'm excited about dling this tonight (if i can remember).

Yep, no tearing in the PSN demo, just ultra smooth gameplay and no frame drops for once. Now the Conan demo, that's a completely different story, it looks like an unpolished tech demo.

And there were actually some points in the R&C demo where it looks exactly like CGI animation. They're doing a wonderful job with it. I'm just happy I'll get to use my PS3 again, it's been so long and I miss it so.

No, I came into the thread and was going to read what people thought bout the R&C demo, because I was interested to see how it was turning out, and the second reply immediately started talking about the PS3's worth and how a $399 price point would help it sell more. Not a word was said about thoughts on the R&C demo and how it played. Sounded like he was defending the PS3 without cause, in a PS3 game thread, even. I just found it extremely odd.

Just keep it on topic, don't get your panties in a bunch.

you're right...its taxonomic classification puts it out of the sellus systemus category and into the kindo neatian category.

For me, R&C was indeed a system seller. The series is one of the main reasons I own a PS3. But overall it's certainly not going to be like Gears or Halo 3. It's sad that it likely won't push systems though, especially when you consider that Galaxy will likely be a considered "system seller" for the Wii (as if it needs any). IMO, R&C has been far and away a better series than Mario in the period after the N64.

About the demo itself, in addition to the tearing being gone, there are also some minor graphical effects that have been added here and there. Anyone who has played the Gamestop version will likely notice that differences.

His response was a direct reply to the OP's question and therefore completely on topic.

Also he wasn't discussing the $399 price point directly, he was confirming that solid titles such as Ratchet and Clank may make the PS3 a worthy purchase to a wider audience.

Anyway, I thought the demo seemed solid. I remember playing one of the earlier Ratchet and Clank games on the PS2 only to be halted when my save file became corrupted. I'll most likely purchase the game this year, if not on release. The graphics are nice and the animations are very smooth; I just hope the gameplay doesn't turn out to be too repetitive.

you know what i really hate about ps3?

every time i go to turn on the god damn thing it asks me to download some stupid ass update. and they aren't tiny like xbox live updates. they take like 30 - 45 minutes to DL here on DSL (and that's as fast as I can get in my apartment so don't gimmie the whole 'your internet sucks' deal).

all i want to do is DL the damn R&C demo ... looks like it's going to have to wait some time now cause I'm going to hop on Halo 3.

turn on the system more? v1.93 has been out for awhile.
and if you wanna download an update fast, check the official firmware page and download to a flash drive and update the ps3 that way. but yea, turn on the system more, say at least every week on thursday to check out the store. gives you a reason if you aren't turning it on enough for games or movies, and will let you take care of the update if there is one.
