I think this may come down to when a person believes life begins. If, as some believe, life begins at conception - when an egg is fertilized, then indeed the application of the MA pill could be equal to an abortion in that persons eyes.

No medical practitioner can be forced to perform an abortion so if and a BIG if here this medical supervisor was following the above proctice, then it is unlikely anything can be done from a legal perspective.

I make no presumption of right or wrong, simply offer an explanation for what may have taken place.

In the case of health or rape, an abortion should never be denied. I?m against the frivolous use of it as a contraceptive, where as this case represents the most valid reason for terminating the pregnancy.

um...this isnt about abortion....

It was to the lady who should have her license to practice revoked

God told her not to let this other human have any freedom to abort the baby

That medical supervisor should be fired, and his/her credentials should be permanently revoked. That person does not belong in a health care position.

On a side note, I fail to see the relation between this and Bush. Was he the medical supervisor? I did not see that listed in the article.

The usual suspect in the 2nd reply DMcowen

But.. Bush is the posterboy of the hardcore Religious Right..

I'm surprised the medical supervisor isn't getting more support - pharmacists refusing to fill prescriptions have had plenty of backers, so what's the difference? It doesn't matter that she was raped; we've heard this over and over again.

So really, where are the people who think this is perfectly fine? Step up already!

The crucial differences lie in the lack of choice to the rape victim in this case (who could hardly walk out of jail to go to a different pharmacist) and in the betrayal of the public trust by the medical supervisor. As a public employee, she gave up her right to make these kind of decisions based on her personal beliefs while on the job.
