How can you simultaneously argue against vapid music while saying you'd rather listen to other shallow music? Maybe if you like shallow music you should just STFU and leave discussion to the adults.

LOL @ "shallow music", whatever the fuck that is. Katy Perry is awesome BTW.

Do you want me to throw the speakers in when it climaxes?

"shallow music" is entirely subjective, any deep music can be classified as shallow in its deepness. My gripe was with comparing tripe to tripe, any tripe prepared is still a matter of taste. It's like a french fry fan and a mashed potato fan arguing, they are arguing against two things, yes, but in the end they're both potato fans.

I seem to like a lot of what the radio plays from eminem. Love the Way You Lie, Not Afraid, and No Love are all recent releases that I enjoy.

I get that and agree with you. However, it needs to be added that there's nothing wrong with liking french fries AND mashed potatoes, and just because you eat french fries every day doesn't mean you don't enjoy a five course meal at a fancy restaurant from time to time.

Mostly ,I just get tired of music snobbery and the "you're an inferior person because you listen to popular music" bullshit that's so endemic these days.

Agreed.

I totally agree. Just because something's popular doesn't inherently make it good or bad. If something is popular and I like it, I'm gonna listen to it. If something in obscure and everyone else hates it, but I love it, I'm still going to listen to it...

Dude, you have no idea what you're talking about...

Linkin' Park was one of THE most popular Nu Metal abortions and is just as reflective of "metal" as Little Wayne is of Hip Hop. If you can't see that, then you're just fucking stupid.

I'm pretty confident that you haven't heard any of these bands

Most mainstream music is garbage. There is good metal, hip hop, and country music, but if you just listen to popular radio, MTV, BET, or CMT then you won't know it.

Dude...Linkin' Park stopped being metal years ago, we are talking present day.

Dude music has been around for more than 7 years.. Get a clue.

Btw; LP has never been metal. That's just the mainstream interpretation of metal. I bet the same principle can be applied to hip-hop.

OHFOSHO.

All I really want is an atmosphere where everyone can enjoy music for what it is, and the atmosphere it creates. I don't want people arguing and stressing over what music is because that defeats the whole purpose.

I can enjoy any music depending upon the circumstances. I mean, who would deny the beauty of the shallowest song on the planet(let's say g-unit by 50 cent) making elderly people dance? And if you were in the room where old people got down, I bet you could swear that G-Unit was the best song ever.

Your absence of self-awareness is amazing. Again, Linkin' Park is "metal" to everyone who doesn't know metal. Most rap is "hip hop" to you because you know jack shit about hip hop. Get a clue.

Yep that's true. I remember being back in college days the crappiest dance song that I would hate any other day of the week was awesome when I was out at the bar loaded out of my tree.

I think the overwhelming success of popular music is due to the people trying to recreate the enjoyment they first experienced when listening. Few people look for music they can enjoy in groups and music they can enjoy in a singular experience; for many, it's one and the same. I'm all about music liberation, liberating music from your own preconceptions of enjoyment.
