Men cause more fatal accidents while women in general cause more accidents in total

haha, can't wait til the snow melts. I'll be taking my bro's SRT4 on the same route 😛 Gotta remember to avoid that damn pothole though.

I vote for people on cell phones are the worst.

If I see someone on a cell phone driving near me, I get as far from them as quickly as I can.

You're making it up as you go.
Fine, you are entitled to your own wrong opinion.
Dude lighten up... we are all having fun here. We are not senetors trying to pass a bill... as my posts (and others too) are supposed to be funny... where's your sence of humor...

His girlfriend ran over it.

women tend to have worse technical skills in driving imo-- as far as judgement, spatial scaling, vehicle handling, traffic awareness etc. However, I find that male drivers are just as bad, if not worse, due to their incompetence in other aspects of driving. For example, how often are tailgaters men? Mind you, these aggressive types are usually found in large SUVs, suburbans and the type. They tailgate so close in a fat@$$ car so high that their headlights' brightness destroys any hope of you moving out of their way or driving faster.

There are men who are bad drivers as well. Just that most are bad because they are overly aggresive and take unnecessary risks. Women who are bad drivers just tend to make more stupid mistakes.
Yep.

I believe that's why women's insurance rates are lower - they may have more accidents, but those accidents are cheaper. When men have an accident, it tends to be....bigger 😀

i was backed into by a woman driver who said she wasnt looking behind when pulling out of a parking spot...............on my brand spanking new car. This has almost happened to me a multitude of times with women, they just look at me shocked. I HATE women drivers
I had to take evasive measures to avoid a head on collision with a truck and hit a telephone poll instead. My vehicle was totaled. The man who turned in front of me, and was charged with negligence, was trying to pull into his driveway and said he didn't see me because the sun was in his eyes. The sun wasn't even out. I HATE men drivers. 😕

yeh, it sounds stupid to generalize like that doesn't it zerocool84?

I had a guy (I think it was a guy...) who turned in front of me like that at an intersection. It was a warm and sunny day... he had a red light (I'd presume since he was in a left turn lane and my light never changed from green) and he just pulls out in front of me. The speed limit on this road is 55 and I was doing 55 (surprisingly), and I barely stopped to avoid the guy.

Old people tend to be pretty bad in my experiences. They also drive around their old decommissioned tanks... I mean Cadillacs that can survive nuclear explosions and still run.

And god forbid if another driver cuts them off or forgets to use the turn signal; they go into a nervous frenzy... One friend of mine put both her hands off the steering while giving a scared shout (when some one cut her off) right in the middle of the interstate Thankfully, when she slammed the brakes no one was behind.

I may not be an Asian woman, but I feel like commenting on this 😛. I don't scream, I get pissed. I hate when people don't use their turn signal and just veer into my lane. Especially if they see me coming up on them and can't wait a second until I go by to change lanes.

Although, I've never had an accident, never been ticketed.

Pull over and let them pass. If you're being tailgated, there's a good chance you're too slow. Typically the situations in which I'll tailgate is when those bastard illiterate punks can't read a damn sign that says "55" when the road goes from PA to NY and they keep going 45! Then they end up speeding through the area where it drops to 40. Bunch of morons I say!

aren't 16-25 y/o males incurring the highest total amount of car accidents?

You are absolutely right. I don't think anybody in this thread has figured out why woman drivers, on average, pay less for automotive insurance.
hmm... there were 4 replies to this original post... somehow you missed them... are you a female yourself...

HAHA OWNED!

I don't know about you but the bottom line is that a majority of female drivers have better insurance rate then YOU do in your age class. And this theory that male drivers are better drivers then females because they have fewer but more severe accidents is laughable. If a person gets into an accident and kils 3 people, I think he is a worst driver then a woman getting into a small accident.
Ho, and before I forget, STFU.

You calling me a Ho buddy?

yes, we all agree that insurance rates are higher for men than women.

So you are saying that a guy who gets in one accident in his life, where he ran a red light and totaled two cars is worse than a woman who gets in 3 separate accidents?

To me that sounds like the man had one moment where he wasn't driving well, but the woman has a chronic history of getting into accidents.

So in this case, the man is still the worse driver?

Obviously it's because men are driving to work while women are at their place in the kitchen.

(kidding!)

I want to add something new to this thread... I notice whenever women are driving and reach a point where they are going to hit something, it's like their mind freezes and they just lock on the brakes and skid into something. It seems that fast-thinking self-preservation component does not kick in. I've only been in one fender bender, which was my fault, but caused basically no damage as it was about 4mph. My wife on the other hand has totaled a car.

I have avoided several accidents by speeding up and swerving rather than locking it up and skidding into another car.

I've actually noticed this, too. When things start going to hell, some people's one and only reaction is to stand up on the brakes and deathgrip the steering wheel.

When someone does something unexpected around my wife, she just automatically slams the brakes... even if she's doing 70mph on the freeway with a mile of traffic behind her. A larger portion of men, generally speaking, seem to take a split second - prior to reacting - to assess their options. It's just a biological difference between how men and women operate. It's not necessarily a personal fault.

For instance, when I had my Jeep Wrangler, my wife and I were turning off one icy road onto another. I hit a patch of black ice and went into a skid in mid-turn. Instead of slamming on my brakes and panicking, I managed to guide the Jeep out of the skid and I put it right between two signposts just off the road. No damage whatsoever. My wife even remarked how if she had been driving, she would have just closed her eyes, hit the brakes, and prayed for the best (which would have sent us sideways into one of said signposts).

I'm not saying this makes men safer drivers; that's far from the truth. There are a lot of dynamics in play when it comes to men vs. women drivers. I still stand by my point that women cause more accidents, but men cause more damage. This is why women pay less insurance (and I agree with the insurance companies... it's all about risk assessment).

It's a quality issue, not a quantity issue.

Day to day, any given woman is more likely to cause an accident than any given man... HOWEVER, when that man is the one to cause the accident, look out. The woman's accident is likely to be a minor fender bender, whereas the man's accident is likely to cause a 26 car pileup, 4 deaths, 14 permanent injuries, and 1 totaled guardrail.

My sister is one accident away from being uninsurable. She's had so many claims that she has to use Safe Auto, and if she gets into one more accident, they're kicking her to the curb. Note, however, that she's caused very little damage in her accidents and no one has ever been hurt. She's simply had a ton of them.

My wife has rear-ended two vehicles, knocked off my side-view mirror whilst backing out of our garage, crushed a deer's skull, backed into no less than 3 parked cars, and driven over a dead dog. Root cause of all incidents? Obliviousness and carelessness.

I've been in one accident. I honked at a guy as he was cutting me off on an on-ramp. He flipped me the bird. I flipped him the bird back. He slammed on his brakes as I rode up on his bumper. Final result? Two totaled trucks. Root cause? Unbridled, unchecked, pure male aggression.

Every so often, I get the desire to equip my tiny little Civic with a set of air horns that would make a locomotive jealous - just for situations like that. 😛

Not to get off topic, but the aftermath was pretty humorous. He got out of his truck like nothing happened at all. He was all "oh man, are you okay... what a freak accident that was !" I, on the other hand, FLIPPED OUT. "WTF were you thinking you dumbfsck! First you cut me off, then you flip me off, then you slam on your brakes for no reason other than to be a douchebag!!!"

Yes, I was riding his ass, but he provoked the thing every step of the way. I know I shouldn't have responded, but I was LIVID. After hearing the details, the cop actually cited him for wreckless driving.

But still... had either one of us kept our cool, nothing would have gone wrong. Had either one of us been a woman, the rage never would have escalated.

By the way, this was about 10 years ago. I haven't tailgated since 😉 .

I find Asians and Mexicans in general to be the worst drivers ever. I got rammed from behind by an Asian guy when sitting still at a red light (hard, moved my car 3 ft forward, fvcked up my bumper), and every time I get behind a slow driver there's a 70% chance the driver is an Asian woman.

No racism/sexism intended, just my observations.

Funny, in my case, whiteys are the worse. A few years ago, one dude hit me from behind while I was at a stoplight. The fvcker didn't even have any insurance.

And don't let me start on female whiteys, especially the ones with huge SUVs and minivans.

No racism/sexism intended either 🙂

True story of a woman driver here...

Coworker of mine drives a little yellow Mini. Driving down the freeway, she sees brake lights, and something kinda floating on the breeze. It was some sort of billboard sign or something, and it wrapped itself AROUND HER CAR (she could only see out the back).

Her reaction: "What did the road look like? Straight, plenty of following distance..." so she took her foot off the gas and didn't hit the brake. It slipped off and she was fine.

The person behind her (another woman) saw the mini wrapped in a vinyl sign, and slammed her brakes on, causing 3 cars to pile up on the interstate 😀

Just proof that it goes both ways. My coworker is a great driver, who happens to also have her class A.

A coworker of mine as hit SEVEN DEER. She's infamous for it. She drove with one the carcasses ATTACHED TO HER UNDERCARRIAGE for TEN MILES. You could see the streak of meat from our parking lot at work all the way back to where she ran over it.

My brother must be part woman then 😱. He's hit 2 deer and 1 horse (yes, a horse), wrecked 1 car (horse accident), severely damaged 1 car's front-end. That was all within about 2 months. Before that, he's wrecked one car awhile ago, but to be a bit fair, a flat tire would've wrecked that old car . Also, the severe front-end damage was mostly because of the township's negligence to address a very dangerous curve that happens to be just right by where we live. 45 degree-ish slope + 2 70+ degree curves and all shrouded in trees. We play a fun game when it snows called "How many cars will get stuck trying to go up the hill."

Fun game, 2 days ago we got 4 people I think?

Yeh, I read that, too.

Like it's been said young males seem to be the cause of these types of serious accidents more times than not.

Gimme 2 fender benders for one of those accidents any day!

AGREED!

I totally understand why young males pay more in insurance. The stats don't lie!
