Because they want to have kids or they just screw too much.

So two of my friends got married a year and a half ago, and already have their second kid on the way.

They are broke.

Really broke.

I wouldn't feel too superior - once/if you have children, you'll be broke also, regardless of how much money you make. Your s.o. and bottomless pit spawn will assure that. You won't ever have kids if you wait until you're ready for them, whether financially or any other way.

I'm all for getting rid of tax credits for having children, but are you serious about free education?? Free public education is the foundation of a free society.

My wife and I have 5 kids. She was on the pill for 3 of them, but I had Super Swimmers!

In any case, can I afford my kids? Not really...but I manage. My wife is a stay-at-home mom and I work full-time. It's not about affording the kids...it's about prioritizing for them. Do I want a new car? Of course. Am I getting one anytime soon? Nope.

We manage. And if the couple described in the rant have any self-respect, they will, also.

Because people think of their own mortality...and children are the only way that one can partly at least remain immortal.

Selfish in a way, yes.

You are increasing the population. I hope you're happy.

I don't drink.
I don't go out with people who do.
No, I wouldn't stick it in a box. I would not stick it in a fox. She would not eat it....you know what, Dr Seuss just wasn't meant for this sort of thing.

Yay, I'm 90th percentile material again!

there maybe many factors why they do.

many poor really can't afford birth control (well they can. they just spend the money on other worthless things).

they are religious. many hard core religious people think it is there duty to have kids.

many just do not give a shit. more kids=more welfare.

Contraceptive is now $8/month..

I had a good link of the legal implications on this matter, but could not find it off hand. They actually will now be able to regulate human birth based on this patent whenever they choose to start doing so. To have a child in the future and not pay them some kind of fee and/or have a contract allowing you to have a child is now a crime.

If I stumble upon the link again, I will repost it here.

Ugh what the hell are you on about? You obviously don't know anything about patents, who they're granted to or why a company might want one.

Oh really? You think I would post something that I had not read else where first? This was the most recent link I read on this subject. But if you google it, you can find loads more on this topic. You might not want to believe this, your choice, but I am not lying about reading it or the implications of it.

All your human genome are belong to US.

More power to you man. Seriously, a lot of people give in to the temptations which stray away from prioritizing their kids financially which accounts for a lot of the problems. Keep it up!

Accidents. I don't know, nothing wrong with living poor. When they say someone doesn't have money in the states, it is almost a lie :)

Thank you!!!

I'm in a similar situation now. I've got 2 small ones that I love with all my life, but I'm flat out broke. I don't depend on any gov't assistance, have a job, and a college degree. My wife stays at home for now, and I make enough to provide shelter, food, and transportation. We do get much support from our families, however. The only form of gov't assistance I get is the tax relief at the end of the year.

A) Some people will complain, no matter what their situation is.
B) Some people don't think their situation through before popping kids out.
C) Unless you're crapping on gold plated toilets, kids are damned expensive, especially if you have to pay for day care.

My wife and I together make a pretty good living (we're paupers, of course, to the average $250k/year ATOTer). We live in a nice house in an old neighborhood - not beyond our means. Now that we've got a second kid, we're having to really pay close attention to our budgets - something neither of us has needed to do before.

I complain about that, and about how expensive my kids' daycare is. Combined, their daycare is roughly equal to the P&I on our mortgage. That cost will go down ? then away ? over the next five years, but that doesn't mean it's not a bitch right now.

And I walked in the bathroom one day and my Mother was standing there, kneeling down... Dog had a litter of about 8, and my Mother was bending over killing each one of these little puppies in the bathtub. I remember I said 'why?'... She said 'Im just killing what I can't take care of' - Then my momma said to me, she looked at me and she said 'I wish I could do that to you'. - Maybe she, maybe she shoulda.

Agreed. Why bring a kid into the world if you can't provide them with every opportunity to be great that they can get.

since you made me think about it... it reminds me of certain people too who usually have lots of kids but aren't exactly comfortably living. Can they not "afford" birth control methods? I don't know why...

Wait... are your friends happy with their choices? Are the kids healthy and happy? Fed well and educated? I mean define "not much money" and "complain a lot"

Do they not have money to feed or clothe the kids? Do they complain they don't have a 60" plasma? Or do they complain they can't pay the gas bill with winter on its way?

There's a big difference there.
