Rant: stupid drivers

I walk to work. Every morning I cross a street right by an interstate entrance, so it gets a lot of traffic. I wait for the light to turn green and cross like a good little pedestrian.

On the other side of the street is a right turn lane that gets a lot of cars going to the entrance ramp, and when the light turns green thay are all turning across my crosswalk. Thats fine, it takes me some time to get across, it is a wide street and 4 or 5 cars can turn before someone has to stop and let me by.

This morning some dumb b!tch in a SUV didn't want to stop. When I kept walking she slammed on her brakes and I could see her yelling at me throught the window. I looked at her and said "What, are you stupid or something?" and kept walking. Every morning I watch the drivers as they turn and I know which one has to stop so they don't kill me, and I can see that look of indecision in their faces. "I can make it. I won't hit him."

I think from now on I'll cary a bar of soap with me as I walk so the next time this happens I can stand in front of their car and write "I am a moron" on the hood.

If I don't post in a while it is because I was ran over. :p

I fvcking hate people who don't stop at crosswalks. I actually one time stood out in front of a car that had ample time to see me before hand and he had to screech his brakes to stop in time. He opened his window and cursed a blue streak asking me if I wanted to fight. He was an adult in a pickup. I was 16. I just told him it was a crosswalk and kept going. fvcker!

I embarrassed the hell out of some 16 year old chick yesterday. She is stopped at a four way stop and i was just coming up to the stop sign. It is the entrance to the Target parking lot, so sometimes there is no 4 way, and sometimes there is. I pull up, stop and look at her to go. She starts flailing about shaking her head and getting all upset.

So i pointed at my stop sign and looked at her. You could see her mouth move to say "oh" and looked away as she drove through the intersection. Her friend was laughing.

I feel for you, but OTOH is there even a crosswalk there? It sounds like the kind of place where drivers are not expecting peds to be crossing, so you can't blame them. Almost hit a jogger once b/c she crossed at a busy intersection with no crosswalks. I didn't think for a second she'd try and make it in front of me, but she did and I had to stop short. She yelled some obscenities at me, but she's the idiot. I know where she lives, and she CHOSE to jog through a dangerous high traffic intersection during rush hour, when she lives near so many areas that have sidewalks and little traffic.

Both parties need to be careful.

is the look on their face worth severe bodily injury? I'd doubt it.

Yes there is a crosswalk. The don't-walk light wasn't even flashing yet.

The funny thing is that it is close to a k-8 school so all the little kiddies cross there and there is a crossing guard. I'm generally crossing later than that. No crossing guard for me :(

Yeh if there is a crosswalk, the drivers should be on the lookout. Feh.

SUV people irk me.

In a parking garage I was walking with my wife and these old people were ahead of me, about 5-6' between us. This guy in a landcruiser comes hauling down the ramp at about 30mph and beeps twice, it is clear he does not want to stop for us, and then goes between us all...I looked down and punched his car full force at the same time...he was within about 1 inch of my feet. My wife and the old people had already scrambled....the guy was about 16-17 years old. As soon as he realized he hit his brakes and rolled his window down....as soon as I walked towards him he hauled ass again. Pretty nice dent was installed free of charge.

In most states the rule is that cars can't drive over the lines of the crosswalk when there is a pedestrian in the crosswalk on that half of the roadway. Once you get halfway across if people are still turning they're breaking the law. If you're lucky enough to live in California (or unlucky enough) just take some pictures while you cross and send 'em to CHP, since pictures are admissible as evidence of traffic violations.

Nothing gets me more POed then driving for about 5 minutes. You truely get to realize how STUPID/GREEDY/RUDE people can be. One thing that gets me really mad ar ethose greed SOBs who block an intersection at a redlight. They slow down traffic to a halt just so there is no gap in between them and the car in front of them.

Another thing that bothers me are the people who walk across the crosswalk when the shouldn't. I really think that crosswalk rules should be enforced more for drivers AND peds like CA.

I think the way the law works in most places is the pedestrian always has right of way regardless.

However, he can get a jaywalking ticket if not done at an intersection.

I believe the green/red crosswalk signals are only to tell you the safe time to walk, but you could walk anytime if you are feeling risky.

The other stuff you said DPK I couldn't understand.

Yes, the pedestrian ALWAYS has the right of way, but that doesn't mean much to a 10-ton semi bearing down on you at 50 MPH.
