um did you see the replay for the french penalty shot? gimme a break.
It's against the rules in UFC to strike the collarbone. Ribs are fair game though. Overall the UFC is a pretty pussified sport since it came back on PPV TV. The earlier ones were much better with few rules.Originally posted by: torpid
In theory he could have broken the collar bone which does hurt quite a bit, or cracked a rib. I don't think either happened, but at the time it seemed possible. It does not take much to break the collar bone or to crack a rib. It happens in boxing and UFC matches relatively often, and those guys are wearing gloves and the opponent generally is blocking.
I thought the NBA was bad until I watched the World Cup. The NBA Players are B-list actors compared to the academy award winners in the World Cup.Originally posted by: JulesMaximus

The Italians are especially adept at flopping. That said it's a shame that Zidane lost his cool and whether that Italian would have fake it or not he still would/should have been red carded for his actions.
True but every time Zidane fell he immeditaly would look up at the ref crying for a foul.
Oh, and the NBA is any better?

Why I didn't enjoy the world cup...
I think that the sport of soccer itself is a beautiful art... I think the athletes who play it are some of the most physically gifted athletes in the world. I think the sport is incredibly demanding both in terms of skills, and in terms of endurance.
and then
I go to the front page of cnn.com, and I see the italian player laying face down on the ground whining like a little baby because he got headbutted in the chest. Are you fvcking kidding me? These guys are such drama queens... I feel like I couldn't get through 2 minutes of a match before one of these pansys does a double back flip holding their face or leg or arm and crashing onto the turf crying like a 2 year old girl who just got their barbie confiscated.
It's gotten to the point now where crying is an important and strategic element in soccer matches... WTF?!?! In my mind that concept instantly makes the game unwatchable. The World Soccer league or world cup comittee or someone needs to get their ass in gear and do something to penalize the blatant wussiness now being rewarded in soccer.
Until this crap is taken care of... I think the name debate between Soccer/Football/American Football can be resolved by calling Soccer what it really is...
Panzyball.

Keep in mind that these people train their necks to headbutt a ball at ridiculous speeds. That wasn't a "run your head into a chest headbutt." It was a very powerfull blow.

atually, it reminds me of the NBA and players faking a fall to draw an offensive foul.

you DO realize that these guys' heads are not soft or anything, right? come on, they headbutt soccer balls like it's nobody's business; Materazzi got a full frontal assault.
Oh please have you ever gotten socked in the chest before? I'm sorry it doesnt do that to you... I don't care if the guy has a steel plate in his head... you just absolutely cannot generate enough force to really hurt someone by headbutting them in the chest.
The italian was queening it up big time.

Probably a little acting going on, but I am sure there was more force in that headbutt that you think. Also, that was an obvious ejection anyways.

ah, and there's quite a difference. I can't say this for sure, but I don't think Materazzi was taller than 6' and heavier than 220 lbs.

Looked it up. Materazzi is 6'4" but only 180 lbs. Zidane is about 6'3" and 172 lbs. The way he fell down smells like a dive. Remember newton's first law. Of course the red card was still justified.
