One morning my friends and I were driving into San Francisco (4 guys in a commuter car). We got to the parking lot (the huge one behind the stadium where the Giants play) and noticed a guy was parking his car (a mustang I think) in a spot in the middle of nowhere. There were no other cars anywhere close to him.

My friends and I thought it would be neat to park in the spot right next to his. So we did. That left two cars off in the middle of nowhere. When we got out (he was getting out too), we were all laughing really hard so didn't notice if he was pissed off or not.

Moral - The person may be parking so close to your car to piss you off.

Solution - Realize it's a car and isn't worth the time, effort or love you are putting into it. It is a depreciating asset and is 50% (at best) of its original value regardless of how old it is.

Solution: Take a mallet and put a couple of dings in your car. You'll be less uptight and live longer. :p

NEVAAARRR! Dings are not a fact of owning a car because I did not have them when I bought the car. It is a fact of people being careless and selfish and idiots. Die stupid people die!

To go on a tangent about dingless cars, check out the new Popular Science mag. Technology of the car fixing itself (like our bodies fixing our cuts) is being worked on...very cool!

That is all. Thank you. I feel better.

Just keep some cement blocks in your car and when you park, put them at the edges of yor parking space (but still inside your lane). Then people won't park as close...

Funny thing you mentioned this. I put two cones on the yellow lines on Monday to test that out for myself! When I got back to my car after work the cones were missing and a car was parked in my lane. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have got to be kidding me. dude all i can picture is your car cordoned off with traffic cones. if i pulled into my works parking lot and saw somebody in the building doing that i would call them a worry freak.

Have you ever thought that somebody knows what a freak you are about your car and are messing with you just to ruffle your feathers??

IF you leave too much room between your car and the car next to you, some azzhat will try to fit in between the two, or the one next to you will think that they are entitled to 1 1/2 parking spaces.

I drive a 1996 Ford Escort so I do not have to worry. My sister got a brand new jeep and although it is gorgeous, I would hate to have to worry about it as much as she does.

I hate when ppl do that. I am sorry for you. I would probably key the entire side of the car that did it to me.

heh. I do this to all the freaks who park like this. If they're so anal as to park all the way out in the lot then i just love torquing them up by parking next to them.

I hate that too.

Once I had a woman pull up in a Lexus LS400 and ding my GS300 while I was sitting in it. Then she had the nerve to yell back at me after I blasted her for being an inconsiderate wench (a bit more diplomatic than that). Some people are so clueless its frustrating. She was lucky she didn't leave her car because she would have had a foot through her window if she did.

Chances are if it is a working environment the person who parks to your left won't have a passenger and therefore still won't be dinging your door.

So basically you seek satisfaction in life by annoying others? Seems kind of sad and pathetic to me.

It is a parking lot near downtown, so lots of types use it. Mainly business people in the morning, so this is true. But then when there are events (baseball games for instance), this lot gets really really full.

Woah dude, my head would have exploded. What did she say back? And why would she give you a ding, yet not leave her car??

nah, just this particular case as it really is very funny to see somebody so anal about their car. It brings much laughter and pleasure. Almost as much as slowing down when folks tailgate.

So it's very funny to be so annoying to someone about something they absolutely love and care for? I'd wish someone would annoy and piss you off about something of yours that you care for.

Here's a tip: grow up!

I've been an adult for sometime now. Loving and caring for a material object is quite childish - that's what family, friends, kids and pets are for. Not a car.

Dude what kind of car do you drive?? It better be an M5 or something nice, otherwise you're killing yourself over nothing!

Please... I'd bet nearly all of you hate finding dings in your car. Quit acting like it's not a big deal.

What you are doing is childish as well. Pot, meet kettle.

I don't care if it's an M5, a McLaren F1 or a 89 Sprint. I drive a 92 Camry and I would be livid if someone hit my car with their door. It's just a blatent lack of respect for the people around them. It's nice that you don't care about your possessions but I care about mine. It pisses me off even when people don't use a coaster on my coffee table. So I'm anal. These are things that I've spent money on and since money is in short supply for me, I'd like them to last as long as possible in the best shape possible. Those do NOT include dings from other people's doors or rings in the finish from people's carelessness with cups.

I watched some lady in a grocery store parking lot who let go of her cart. The wind caught it and started pushing it over toward another car. She casually walked after it and didn't make it there until after the cart hit the car. It wasn't even my car and I was about to go over there and give her a huge chunk of my mind. If that was me with the cart, I would have been in a dead sprint to catch it in time. :|

It's kind of funny but my original post was going to speculate that you would slow down in the left lane to annoy someone but I backspaced over it. Are you also the guy that darts over to the left lane at a traffic light and purposely goes slow when the light is green to annoy the folks behind you as well? Why does it bother you so much that another person cares enough about their car to take extra care to keep it ding free?

That's a good point. Sometimes, when another car is kinda close to my driver's side, I take a peek in the car--If I see stuff on the passenger seat, then I'm not concerned.

listen. I do it to a woman at work here all the time. Its fun. She laughs at it and we both have a good time ribbing each other. I would never ding somebody's car and take special care getting into and out of my car making sure the door doesn't even touch any car next to me.

And if somebody is tailgaiting I'm slowing down to the speed limit until I can get over.

lightenup already its a car.

-edit- my guess would be somebody just playing with you for fun and doesn't have ill intentions.
