Really a good guy? No offense, but anyone who would sell out their own flesh and blood is not good...only filth.

Woe I have to agree I couldnt imagine my brother doing that to me or vice versa.

Wow, and I thought my brother and best friend and me trying to figure out the proper change from Taco John's at lunch in high school was a difficult situation.

I could understand if maybe he had come up with the downpayment with his own money or something, but the house was basically handed over to him, and you and your sister were helping him pay the mortgage by paying rent. Unless I'm completely misunderstading it, then sorry.

To me it's similar to a situation where the family business was handed down to siblings. The business would go under somebody's name, but it would really be all of the siblings who run and control the business.

To me this seems very wrong.

In looking back, yeah he really didn't do much but he did accept responsibility for the house.
I mean the house could have been a disaster and he would had to pony up the money to fix it.
He was just lucky that the myself and sisters took turn paying the mortgage.
He did pay a little fixing here and there and also paid for the mortgage when only one of us was statying at the house.

I still pretty mad but I shouldn't be mad at him....I think its his wife that pulls the chains.

AND this is Florida....I don't think any house in Cali can be had for $150K unless its a tiny shack in BFE.

one of the 10 crack commandments...(sort of)
"Keep your family and business completely separated."

You should be mad at him for letting his wife get in the middle of your family business. But there's no point in dwelling on it - he won't pick you over her, ever.

Maybe you should talk with both of them together, and try to work something out. Maybe a rent-to-own deal, where you pay them monthly, and eventually, it's yours. You gotta smooth-talk her to make it work.

EDIT: are there any expensive repairs coming up? New roof, new a/c, plumbing, etc? Maybe you could stress how he has to pay part/all of those costs, and it'd be cheaper for him to sell it outright.

Did you guys even have the place appraised? I'm sure your brother is right, and he could sell it for $150K or better. My brother just brought a house in Ohio in January, did like $500 in repairs, and has just sold it for a $40k profit. I'm sure it's the same or better in Florida. Why should your brother just give it to you? It sounds like he already gave you a break in rent.

The house should be sold for its fair value. Is your brother supposed to sell you the house for whatever you feel like paying? What if you ask him to give it to you? Why should he cut you a deal? Shouldn't you cut him a deal and give him an EXTRA $20k or so, since he's your brother?

It goes both ways.

No, you're missing the point.....He's will be profiting $50K++ even if he sells me the house for $135K-$140.
And as I've explained, he hasn't sunk much money at all into the house. $50K++ for not doing much is pretty good in my book(and I'm his brother)

As I've also stated that he never did tell me exactly what he want for the house....if he did....maybe we can come to a middle ground.

How is he giving me a break in rent when me and my sister's are pretty much covering the mortgage every month ??

I'm really just ranting...OK ??
I thought we had an understanding that he will sell me the house.
I went and got approved and everything and then he changes his mind.
I have to right to me MAD.....end of RANT.

contact the wife, find out the true story. then talk to both of them and see if you can come to an arrangement

If he doesn't appreciate you living there as long as you did, let him deal with renters to get income. Don't let $ get in the way of family, even if he is...

Yeah, that!

Is this in California, Florida or where?

Business is business. I don't care if it's a family member.

It's his fuggin' brother for God's sake, not Joe Crackhead down the street. My guess is that him and his brother are in good standing, so what's $5k among family when you already stand to gain handsomely out of the deal?

You know, family does for each other? My dad has 8 brothers and sisters. He's not hurting for money, so he's given 3 or 4 of them money to help then get back on their feet from time to time. Some of them have paid him back, some of them haven't. But he doesn't sweat it, it's not like he's going to go into the poor house by helping his siblings out.

I don't know man, but to piss on your brother for $5,000 sounds downright snake-like to me.

So my mom didn't want to be responsible for the motgage and stuff so she let my brother take it over......he have yet to pay back the $15K. The cost of the house was $82K.

Throughout the years...it was mainly occupied by me and the sisters paying rents, etc..

Fast forward to now.
My mom wanted him to sell it to me for $120K.
He told her more like $140-150K.
I was thinking more like $135-$140K.

So I get approved and everything and now he doesn't want to sell it anymore.
He was to gain $50K++ from really doing nothing through the yrs.

No, hes really a good guy but damm, now I have to look for other alternatives.

Compromise?
