Like he said (although is letter claims the contrary), he is DESPERATE and BROKE. He has no options although he is implying that he does...this is a very dangerous way to live, esp with someone else. It is the method through how many women are abused.

Well usually people that have roommates have them due to lack of being able to afford their own places. Also many dorms require sharing a room, and dorm life is a lot different than living off campus.
